How to Destroy Rocks
How to Clear Purple Slime
With Pokémon ZA becoming a more open world game, you are starting to see some Xelda like open world design carry over. The result is as you explore Lumiose City, you will find pathways blocked off with various obstacles. Sometimes, you need to take these down to get various rewards around the map. One of these obstacles are vines, which can be cut or burnt away. Here’s how to break vines in Pokémon ZA.

How to Break Vines¶
To break vines in Pokemon ZA, you need to use some form of grass or fire type Pokémon on them. The general idea is that grass is used to cut through nature obstacles, while fire can simply burn it out instead.
In terms of the moves, you can use anything like:
- Ember
- Fire Punch
- Razer Leaf
These are fairly common moves that you can get your hands on. If you have one of these moves on a Pokemon, then lock onto a vines using ZL and then use the appropriate grass or fire move against it. If you need to break one of these early, i suggest using one of the following:
| Pokémon | Type | Wild Zone |
|---|---|---|
| Fletchling | Flying (Can learn Ember) | Wild Zone 1 |
| Budew | Grass-type moves | Wild Zone 2 |
| Skiddo | Grass-type moves | Wild Zone 3 |
| Litleo | Fire-type moves | Wild Zone 3 (boss mob) |
| Floette | Grass-type moves (limited) | Wild Zone 3, Wild Zone 7 |
| Bellsprout | Grass-type moves | Wild Zone 5 |
| Houndour | Fire-type moves | Wild Zone 6 |
| Roselia | Grass-type moves | Wild Zone 7 |
| Bayleaf (evolution from Chikorita starter Pokémon) | Grass type | N/A |
There’s potential that you may still be able to use Pichu and Pikachu for the Grass Knot TM moves but we haven’t tested it.
So, feel free to grab any of the Pokemon you’re after from some of the early game Wild Zones. Chances are there’s something for you out there for you to capture and use to deal with the vines.
In terms of what you can get from the vines, they often hide rewards. Take the Wilds Zone 34 for example. There’s a few vine son that park that contain items. There’s also another in Wild Zone which hides the Fire Spin move. So, they are well with breaking when you see them around the map. Feel free to check out Gamer Guide’s Pokemon ZA Interactive map for more locations on where to find the vines for some missable rewards.
