Chikorita Evolution Guide - Is this Starter Pokémon for you?

When you start Pokémon Legends ZA, you will be given the choice between several starter Pokémon. What you choose is entirely up to you. For the most part it’s preference. If you’ve come to the idea that Chikorita is a good pick, then you’re like me. We’re here to help you with your Chikorita’s evolutions, tips for playing with that Pokémon and more.

Here’s a look at what to expect from Chikorita’s Evolution in Pokemon ZA. Image via Gamer Guides / Nintendo.

Chikorita Evolution Guide

When you pick Chikorita, you’ll have to get that Pokémon to level 15 to evolve into Bayleef. From there, Bayleef will be your new pick, which you’ll then need to level to 32 before you can evolve it to Meganium.

When you do get Bayleef, you will be able to get new moves for the Pokémon. You will get Razor Leaf, which is a move that can critically strike easily, and it is a powerful grass move. You also get Giga Drain and Whip Tail. So, Bayleef does become a fairly strong grass type Pokémon to use for your grass themed combat.

Chikorita’s Mega Evolution

With Pokemon Legends ZA all about Mega evolutions, your starter Pokémon can get a Mega form as well. When Chikorita makes it to Meganium, you can get Mega Meganium as part of the main storyline. It gives it a Fairy type too, changing its weaknesses and strengths around somewhat. While you get weaker to anti-Fairy effectiveness, you do become immune to dragons. This is quite good considering some of the mega bosses you come against are Dragon types. There are also a few Water type Pokémon that are mega evolution bosses for various main and side missions. So, Meganium is a good choice for your late game party countering bosses.

The only downside is that Chikorita is probably the worst starter Pokémon for the early game. There are no real counters early on for your effectiveness. So Chikorita is slightly weak. Bellsprout is also a common Grass type early, alongside various normal grass-like beasts around, so you have decent Grass options early on. If you want to pick Chikorita in Pokemon Legends ZA, you’re doing it for the evolutions. Hope that helps the choices you might make with Chikorita in Pokemon Legends ZA.
