"Froakie" iconFroakie is one of the Kalos starters from Pokémon X and Y, alongside "Fennekin" iconFennekin and "Chespin" iconChespin. All three of them can be found in Legends Z-A.

There are two ways to obtain Froakie.

Side Mission 009 A Challenge from Froakie

Start of the side mission

Final obstacle course

Once you have access to side missions, go to the far north-east side of the city to find Froakie near the bottom of some scaffolding: Map Marker

Froakie will challenge you to complete three increasingly difficult obstacle courses. The first two are nearby, then the last one is further away (if in doubt, open your map, press X to show the missions, then turn on guidance for this side mission).

The obstacle courses are a little tricky and they’re also timed. However, if you keep calm, you should be able to reach the end in time. For some parts, you’ll need to roll to get across a gap. The first roll during the first course is probably the hardest.

Beat all three courses and Froakie will join your party.

Wild Zone 16

Caught the sneaky bugger at last

After Main Mission 24, you’ll gain access to Wild Zones 16 and 17. Froakie can be found in 16, sitting on top of the central monument: Map Marker

Froakie is extremely cautious and will run away as soon as it spots you. So you have to somehow sneak closer, which is not easy. First, there’s loads of wild Pokémon along the way. Also, Froakie is extremely sensitive.

However, all hope isn’t lost. First, deal with the wild Pokémon who get in your way. There’s a decent chance Froakie will run off around this time, but that’s fine. Head towards the central monument and find some tall grass to hide, then wait.

After roughly 1 minute, a new Froakie will spawn. Aim high up and throw a "Poké Ball" iconPoké Ball when it’s facing away, to get a back strike. You may want to use a "Quick Ball" iconQuick Ball.

If you caught it, great. Otherwise, repeat the process. Or even if you caught it, you can just camp here and continue to catch Froakies.

Mega Greninja

Mega Greninja from official trailer.

To get the most out of Froakie, you’ll want to evolve it all the way to "Greninja" iconGreninja, then obtain the "Greninjite" iconGreninjite mega stone so you can Mega Evolve it.

However, you’ll need to act fast, because the only way to get Greninjite is to reach Rank K during Season 1 of Ranked Battles, which lasts until around 5th November 2025: Source

Although Ranked Battles can seem intimidating, you don’t need to win a lot of battles to rank up. Just keep battling and you should obtain the mega stone in less than a hour.
