Tips for getting the Shiny Charm

The "Shiny Charm" iconShiny Charm is one of the more natural methods you can use in Pokemon Legends ZA to help you with your shiny hunting techniques. It helps increase the chances shinies spawn naturally in your game, and so helps your collection needs. However, to get the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Legends ZA, you will need to reach level 50 with Mabel’s Research Tasks. This makes it a considerable grind to get. However, we have a few tips to help you get to it.

Here’s a look at how to power through your Mabel research tasks and unlock the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Legends ZA. Image via Gamer Guides / Nintendo.

How to get Shiny Charm

In general, you have a broad range of methods to use, ranging from:

  • Wild Zone Surveys - catch all Pokemon in a Wild Zone.
  • Winning Battles
  • Type specific catching - collect the Pokemon of a single type present in the game.
  • Evolutions - Evolve Pokemon via level, item evolutions, and link trade evolutions.
  • "Mega Shard" iconMega Shards - Smash Mega Shards to get some passive research tasks complete.
  • Simple tasks like relaxing at cafes, benches, restoring fossils, anomalous alphas.

In terms of the total point distribution, farming XP can look something like this:

Method Estimated Points Effort Level
Complete 10-15 Wild Zone Surveys 10,000-15,000 Medium
Win 500 battles (tiers 1-14) 2,800 Low (natural)
Win 1,000 battles (tier 15) +2,000 (4,800 total) Very High
Complete first 3-4 tiers of all 18 type catches 16,200-21,600 Medium
Evolve 45 Pokémon (general) 5,000 Low
5 Trade evolutions 6,000 Medium
10 Item evolutions 1,500 Low
One-time bonuses (Cafés, Benches, Fossils, Alphas) 2,500 Very Low
Mega Evolution Pokédex (5-10 entries 2,500-5,000 Medium
Smash 500 Mega Crystals (9 tiers) 900 Very Low
Main Pokédex entries (50-100 species) 15,000-30,000 Low-Medium

If you’re opting to do the Pokedex challenges, then the Wild Zones unlock as you get to them. These are 1,000 XP and should be your main way of getting them. Most are fairly easy. They often indicate a type in that area, so setting up type effectiveness is fairly easy when you know what is there. For example, Wild Zone 14 tends to be ground, rock, and steel related, while 12 is Ice types. Others can be bug, ghost, or normal, etc. This should make getting these fairly simple.

However, some Pokemon in some of these Wild Zones only spawn when it’s raining, while others tend to flee easily, like in Wild Zone 6 and 12 thanks to Delibird fleeing a lot. Others spawn only at night, others in the day. It means some can be hard to complete. Others only have Pokemon there that spawn as an alpha, making that also fairly tough to beat when you’re in that level range for that Wild Zone. It may mean you need to come back later to beat the alphas and capture them, or one-shot and capture the Pokemon that love to flee easily.

Other Pokedex type completions can be tough too. Take the Wild Zones 17-20, where some Pokemon spawn under big pools of other Pokemon, lots of Megas, or in the case of 20, a lot of Pokemon from the pool. This can make some of the later game type catching challenges much harder to do.

In other instances, we recommend trying other challenges like the one-time evolution challenges, the one-time bonuses like the cafes, benches, and other things to get some easy rewards. Since the types only give 300 XP, there’s a good few to be made there in place of them. You can of course grind trainer battles in Night Zones, or on multiplayer to accrue some more bonus points to skip some of the even more awkward Pokemon type dex catching.

If you need help completing the type pokemon challenges, we have a where to find all pokemon in Legends ZA to help speed that up.
