This is a guide for obtaining the Legendary Pokémon pair "Xerneas" iconXerneas and "Yveltal" iconYveltal in Legends Z-A.

Requirement

You need to complete 1 reward match

After that, you’ll get an urgent phone call from Lida

To catch these powerful Pokémon, you must first complete the main story (reach the credits roll) and then complete 1 reward match of the Infinite Z-A Royale.

After that, you’ll receive a phone call from Lida, telling you to head back to Hotel Z. Once there, you’ll meet L who gives you two new main missions, related to Xerneas and Yveltal.

Main Mission 40 The One That Gives

Speak to Mable for clues

Then deal with 3 anomalous alphas

Make your way to 3F of the Pokémon Research Lab and speak to Mable. She’ll give you a new research task, to deal with 3 abnormal alphas in three wild zones.

In Wild Zone 3, there’s an alpha "Steelix" iconSteelix near the center. At Wild Zone 5, there’s a "Gallade" iconGallade at the west park. Finally, there’s a "Pangoro" iconPangoro atop a roof at the south-west corner of Wild Zone 9.

All three alphas are Level 70 and have lots of HP. So prepare for a long battle for each. You can either KO them or capture them, the choice is yours.

Once you’ve dealt with all three alphas, return to Mable at her lab. You’ll then be told to visit Wild Zone 11. On the north side, there’s a spot where you can wait for Xerneas to appear.

How to Catch Xerneas

Xerneas in all its glory

Geomancy is the one to watch out for

The cover legendary of Pokémon X, Xerneas is a pure Fairy type. It can use Geomancy to boost its Sp. Atk, Spd. Def and Speed, then hit hard with Moonblast. It can also use Horn Leech and Megahorn, which aren’t as dangerous.

A Steel or Poison type would be great here, to resist the Geomancy-boosted Moonblast. While also resisting the other two moves.

Your task is to capture Xerneas. If you knock it out and fail to catch it, you’ll get another chance. However, Xerneas has a fairly high catch rate, so it shouldn’t take too much effort to catch it.

Main Mission 41 The One That Takes

Vinnie is in charge of the simulations

Clear all 3 to show them that you’re ready

Head over to Nouveau Café and speak to Grisham. You’ll be invited to Quasartico Inc. There, Vinnie will let you challenge 3 Rogue Megas in a simulation.

The megas you’ll face are ones you’ve fought before: "Victreebel" iconVictreebel, "Hawlucha" iconHawlucha and "Tyranitar" iconTyranitar. However, they’re all higher level, at Level 70. Also, you won’t have any NPCs to assist you. Still, it should be no problem for you.

Afterwards, you’ll be told that Yveltal will appear at Galerie de la Lune. Fast-travel (or travel normally) to Restaurant Le Wow, then use the nearby scaffolding to climb up.

How to Catch Yveltal

They make Yveltal sound so scary

But it’s known more for its bulk than its offensive prowess

The cover legendary of Pokémon Y, Yveltal is a Dark and Flying type. It can use Oblivion Wing to deal Flying type damage and siphon HP, "Hurricane" iconHurricane, "Psychic" iconPsychic and "Dark Pulse" iconDark Pulse.

Although it looks scary, its moves don’t hit hard, especially if you bring in a special tank like "Sylveon" iconSylveon. "Light Screen" iconLight Screen can also help.

As Griselle reminded you, your mission is to capture Yveltal. If you fail, you can try again, so there’s no threat. Besides that, Yveltal has a fairly high catch rate. So you shouldn’t struggle much if you can lower its HP to the red.
