How Plus Moves Work and How to Get Them

Plus Moves are a brand new mechanic for Pokemon Legends ZA that can change the tide of battle in your favor. If you’re looking to maximize your damage output and make your Pokemon even more powerful, then here’s everything you need to know about Plus Moves, how to master them, and how they work with Mega Evolution.

Here is a look at what Plus Moves are in Pokemon Legends ZA. Image via Gamer Guides / Nintendo.

What Are Plus Moves?

Plus Moves are powered-up versions of your Pokemon’s regular moves. When you use a Plus Move, it adds additional power or effects to the attack. For offensive moves, this means dealing significantly more damage to your opponent. For status moves, the duration or effect gets increased, making moves like stat boosts or weather conditions last longer or hit harder.

Ideally, you want to use your plus moves when they are super effective to deal even more damage. So if you’re already hitting a weakness, Plus Moves will nuke your enemies health bar more than they normally would. However, using Plus Moves comes at a cost. These moves are really expensive while in Mega Evolution, and so it’s a tactical trade off for when to use them.

One important thing to note is that Plus Moves can break through defensive moves. When a Pokemon uses "Protect" iconProtect or Detect against a Plus Move, they will not be able to block all the damage. This makes Plus Moves excellent for breaking through stall tactics and forcing defensive players to take hits. Slowbro will get nuked now.

How to get Plus Moves

You can sometimes get Seed of Mastery Drops from defeating Alpha Pokemon. Image via Gamer Guides / Nintendo.

When you pickup Seed of Mastery, you will find them in your item satchel. You can take them to the Justice Dojo after mission 19 to upgrade TM Moves. Image via Gamer Guides / Nintendo.

By and large, Pokemon get plus moves after a sizable amount of training. It seems that the move will automatically become a plus move, after around 10 levels after unlocking it. You will see the moves get upgraded through little prompts, and then notice the icon next to the move name when it’s upgraded.

However, that is slightly different to TMs moves. These require upgrading via Seeds of Mastery. These are a collectible item that you can find through Lumious City via beating Alpha Pokemon. It’s not 100% drop chance, but a few can drop at a given time.

Once you have a "Seed of Mastery" iconSeed of Mastery, take it to Josée at the Justice Dojo. She will teach your Pokemon how to master their move, turning it into a Plus Move. This is essential if you’re running a competitive moveset that relies heavily on TM moves, as naturally learned moves won’t always give you the coverage or utility you need. You will need to complete Mission 19 before the Justice Dojo unlocks. So, till then, you will naturally collect them if you do manage to beat or capture Alpha Pokemon on your travels.
