How to get Kalos and Kanto Starters
from
Pancham with a unique evolution requirement.
Pangoro is a powerful physical attacker from Generation 6, offering players a strong Fighting and Dark-type bruiser for their party. If you’re in the market for Pangoro, then here is a closer look at how to catch and evolve Pancham, where to find Pangoro, and tips for taking down Alpha Pangoro.

How to Get Pancham¶
Firstly, you will need to get your hands on a Pancham if you want to start from scratch. You can find Pancham in Wild Zone 3 Map Marker, making it accessible fairly early in your adventure through Lumiose City.
You can opt to not catch one of these if you’re further in the game. Or maybe follow our EXP farming guide to help power level your Pancham up a bit more.
How to Evolve Pancham into Pangoro¶
Evolving Pancham into Pangoro has a unique requirement that sets it apart from most Pokemon. Pancham needs to be at least level 32 to evolve, but that’s not all. You must also have a Dark-type Pokemon in your party when Pancham reaches level 32 for the evolution to trigger. So make sure you’ve got a Dark-type teammate like
Absol,
Umbreon,
Sableye, or any other Dark-type Pokemon in your party before leveling up your Pancham.
This evolution requirement is a callback to Pancham’s original evolution method, where it needed to learn from the bad influences of Dark-type Pokemon to become the tough Pangoro. It’s a neat bit of flavor that makes evolving Pancham feel more special than your typical level-based evolution.
Where to Find Pangoro¶

If you don’t want to go through the trouble of evolving Pancham yourself, you can catch Pangoro directly in the wild. Pangoro can be found as a random spawn in Wild Zone 20, Map Marker so keep your eyes peeled when exploring that area. However, the best opportunity to catch Pangoro comes during Main Mission 40, where an Alpha Pangoro appears in Wild Zone 9. Map Marker
Beating and Catching Alpha Pangoro¶
Alpha Pangoro can be a tough opponent, so it’s important to know its weaknesses before engaging. As a Fighting/Dark-type, Pangoro is weak to Fighting, Flying, and Fairy-type attacks. However, its biggest weakness is Fairy-type moves, which deal 4x super effective damage.
One of the best Pokemon to counter Alpha Pangoro is Mega
Clefable, thanks to its Flying and Fairy types. So that’s the best case scenario. Otherwise, you can use
Hawlucha for a combination of its Flying and Fighting types. Otherwise, run any Fairy, Flying, or Fighter as counters to Alpha Pangoro.
Sylveon is a good example if a Pokemon to use.
When you defeat a Pangoro, it should make it easier to catch with an
Ultra Ball. You can try to sneak attack it with a
Quick Ball but it’s no guarantee it will work. If you catch it, you’ll grab yourself an Alpha Pangoro, which gives you a super strong Dark Fighter type Pokemon, which can hit ghosts with normal attacks. How very cheesy.
