"Zygarde" iconZygarde is one of the legendary pokemon in Pokemon Legends ZA. This doggo has been a guardian angel to some extent through the main storyline, and when you can reach the post game there’s plenty more to come with it. So, if you want to catch Zygarde, since he’s your good boy anyway - here’s a closer look at what to do.

Note this will contain spoilers for the main story. View ahead at your own peril.

How to catch Zygard

To catch Zygarde, you will need to have done the following prerequisites:

  • Worked your way through the main storyline
  • Entered the post game and beat a round of the Infinite Royale
  • Beat the previous post game main quest for the other legendaries, Xerneas and Yveltal

When these are complete, you will get the "To Keep the World in Balance" iconTo Keep the World in Balance Main Mission. This will give you a longer winded mission. You’ll need to beat Trainer L, who will have a strong team.

Pokemon Level Types Weaknesses
"Pyroar" iconPyroar 78 Fire, Normal Water, Fighter, Ground
"Florges" iconFlorges 78 Fairy Poison, Steel
"Sableye" iconSableye 78 Dark, Ghost Fairy
"Noivern" iconNoivern 79 Flying, Dragon Ice(4x), Rock, Fairy, Dragon(Dragon counter each other)
"Garbodor" iconGarbodor 79 Poison Ground, "Psychic" iconPsychic,
Mega "Gyarados" iconGyarados 80 Water, Dark Electric (4x), Rock

We advise setting up a party of counters for these pokemon. We have an effectiveness sheet if you need a reminder of what counters what. I’d give suggestions but given that these are level 78-80 battles, I appreciate grinding perfect counters ready for the match is not ideal. As long as you have an Electric for the Mega "Gyarados" iconGyarados you’re fine and an Ice for "Noivern" iconNoivern you’re fine. The others are broad enough you’ll likely have something for it somewhere in your party, or at least some TMs to add to your pokemon that won’t be weak to them for example.

When the battle is done, you can now go ahead and catch Zygarde. To do so, head over to Wild Zone 20, and you should see it dead center of Prism Tower. Simply walk up and interact with it. This will then begin a battle which you need to beat to capture it.

Beat Zygarde to Catch it

Now that the battle is on, be advised that Zygarde has quite the long fight. But, throughout the fight, it will always be weak to Ice, Fairy and Dragon. We strongly recommend using Mega "Clefable" iconClefable here, since it is immune to Dragon, countering a lot of those moves. In addition, Clefable can learn "Ice Beam" iconIce Beam and "Ice Punch" iconIce Punch as TMs, which gives you both Fairy and Ice moves to counter Zygarde.

Now that the prep work is out of the way, Zygarde is a three phase fight:

  • Phase 1: Zygarde is in its good boy form. This Pokemon is very fast in this stage and has a Dark move "Crunch" iconCrunch.
  • Phase 2: Zygarde transitions and becomes much stronger. It will instead move to the room and be a static target for this time. Boulders will also fall from the sky so you need to keep moving. It will also start using more Dragon attacks during this phase. There’s also a green light effect, where you need to keep moving. This will follow you and it’s easy to hit Pokemon, so be mindful of where they are, swap your pokemon out, or put them back for the time being.
  • Phase 3: Zygarde fully transforms into some chad creature. From here, it’s fast and strong, and will have an AOE effect around its model, with it hitting in different ring layers around it. Remember to use your dodge to avoid it if you’re in the path of its layer. It will also occasionally fire a giant laser beam from outside the arena. There’s also a move that shoots green dragon energy from the floor upwards. So you will need to stand out of the way of both of these attacks to avoid taking big hits from those moves.

Considering this is a long fight, make sure to dodge, and take some strong healing items and revives with you. If you end up losing, you need to go through all these phases again.

When you win the fight, you will then get Zygarde. You will also get an item called "Zygarde Cube" iconZygarde Cube, which will allow you to use the Pokemon in any of its models you want. So it at least lets you use one of your favorite forms from the fight moving forward with the Pokemon now in your party.
