How to Get to Kaifeng
Volume II - The Abandoned Shrine Walkthrough
One of the first major side quests players are introduced to in Where Winds Meet is the Volume 1 - The Realm Endures. You can find this quest by the gates at the Ruined Fort at the Battlecrest Slope mini area on the world map. When you speak to one of the two brothers at the gate, you’ll start the quest. However, the quest has a few puzzles. So here’s a walkthrough for completing the Volume 1 - The Realm Endures Side Quest in Where Winds Meet.

Volume 1 - The Realm Endures Walkthrough¶
Okay, as mentioned, you start the quest at the front of the Ruined Fort. Open the door and get inside. There are quite a few bandits around the fort, with lots of treasure chests for exploration points if you want them. The best way to take these out is to try and clump them around the gunpowder barrels and hit them with a fire arrow to get them to detonate. These often one shot most regular difficulty enemies you find around them.
When you head to the back left corner of the fort, you’ll find the mini boss and his cronies. Defeat them, and you’ll rescue the other brother and get a clue.
The Fires¶

So, you’ll get a clue of sorts, where there are several braziers. You’ll need to have only the marked ones turned on. For reference, where you got the map is in the top left corner of it, which should help orient you.
Now, you need to enable the following fires:
- Bottom right wall brazier (near to the first brother at the gate)
- The Brazier where you find the mini boss against the wall
- The Brazier in the gate near the mini boss
- Top right corner to the right of the gate brazier
When all of these are lit, you can go to the platform where you battled the mini boss and perform a mighty drop. This is where you jump into the air and then use the left thumbstick on your controller to perform a drop move. This will slam into the now revealed pressure plate and open the secret room.
Solve the Puzzle on the Wall¶
Now that you’re inside the underground mystery room, you will need to investigate the first stone room you come across where the traps end. You will learn a secret emote you can perform, which will now be under the puzzle section of emotes. Navigate it by opening the menu wheel, then going to the emote section at the top of the second wheel. Head to the puzzle section, and you should find the Yanyuan Oath. Venture deeper into the chasm, avoiding the trap wires and you’ll come across a large stone statue in the room. Use the emote next to it to trigger the puzzles.

Now, to solve this, you need to check the clue. There will be ancient Chinese text on the clue, detailing the oath of the soldiers that lived there. You now need to match the walls by having those symbols lit up and activated on each of the walls. Press in any that don’t match. Some of the symbols won’t move, so ignore them as they are there to throw you off (or bugged, we are not too sure). Once all of the ones on the clue are lit up, you can unlock the door to the next room.
Volume 1 - The Realm Endures Rewards¶
From here, you now need to unlock one final door. There is a mechanism inside a hidden room behind the waterfall. Simply walk in and interact with it to continue onwards. There are a few cheeky chests around here on top of the waterfall cliff, hidden on broken wooden paths and on the wooden scaffolding.
When you’re ready to go, head through the door to the final room and get your rewards. You’ll get the quest completed once you finish investigating everything in the room. You’ll be awarded:
- Various XP
- Money
- Jade gacha currency
- Wind Beneath Wings Pages x4 - need ten to unlock the passive skill, which reduces endurance use while dashing and jumping, and grants movement speed after landing
- Medicinal Tales - a medicine chest upgrade item
- Ebon Iron - Tier 2 upgrade material for offensive mystic skills
- Oscillating Jade - Enhance gear between level 1 and 35
Outside of your exploration completion reward for finishing the quest, you’ll also get a martial art move. Interact with the mural on the back wall, and you’ll learn more about the area. It will then award you with the Touch of Death skill. This allows you to sneak up on enemies who are not a red alert threat to you. When you sneak up on them, you’ll get the ability to attack the enemy, performing some incredibly high burst damage. This often stealth assassinates most enemies, which is a handy Assassin’s Creed-like killing spree for enemies unaware or only slightly startled close together.
