How to get and Upgrade Medicines
Player Housing and Construction Explained
Sects are an interesting feature in Where Winds Meet, which offers players the chance to join faction-like content within the game. Unlike other RPGs, Sects are kinda like roleplaying guilds, where you have to follow the rules, to then unlock new cosmetics and other rewards from the leaders. Here’s a closer look at what Sects do in Where Winds Meet, and which one you want to join.

What Sect to Join in Where Winds Meet¶
For the most part, there are three factors that will go into your choice. These are:
- Unlocking a Weapon Martial Art
- Unlocking Cosmetics by previewing that sect’s rewards
- Sect rules for roleplaying
In general, Sects is a faction that you can join one at a time. You can choose to leave them, or break the rules to get kicked out. Though, getting kicked out or leaving will come at a cost of having to wait or completing leaving quests to escape them. So, you need to be smart about what you choose. If there’s a weapon you want, we have some detail on how to get all weapons in Where Winds Meet so you don’t waste your choice on a Sect’s weapon per say.
Go to a Sect’s status tab and check the row of info for previews of the cosmetics. Each Sect has different cosmetic themes. There’s also a special commander tab which players fight between who are max rank of the Sect to get a special in-game title for that week. Below we have more details on what to expect from each one to help make your choice.

This table below represent all the fleshed out Sect available for the Where Winds Meet global launch.
| Sect Name | Weapon | Rules | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|
| Well of Heaven | Thundercry Blade | Don’t harm others of the same sect or excessive money farming | Tanking |
| Silver Needle | Both Fan weapon types | Receive likes and healing other players | Healer / friendly players |
| Midnight Blades | Infernal Twinblades | Kill other wanderers (players) in PvP, and no not run away from fights in Open World combat | PvP / Combat |
| Nine Mortal Ways | Mortal Rope Dart | Unlock the Disguise feature from Kaifeng and mess around by blending in. Failing tricks or being arrested deducts points | DPS / silly casual role playing in the city. |
| Hollow Vale | Both umbrelles | Mix of healing and killing but there’s mystery to it till you join | Support / role playing |
These are all the ones that are actually joinable with deep progression systems for the Global Launch. There are many other sects, but they don’t necessarily work right now or are not fleshed out properly.
When you’ve compared the weapon unlock, playstyle of sect rules, and the cosmetics, you can lock in your choice. Now that you’re in a Sect, you will then get special social features of that Sect. You can see a tab of other players who join, get promoted, and even leave or get kicked out for not following the rules. These places tend to have player hubs too, so you can find other like-minded players in your co-op and multiplayer setting worlds if you toggle them. Other than that, it’s not a dramatic choice, but something you should be aware of when engaging with the game’s various systems.
Some of the Sects are not in the game as of launch, but show in the menus due to progression from the Chinese servers. So, generally check for the ones that have rules accessible or hidden to learn more about them from clues or join sect clues you stumble across. You often won’t join a sect until you complete an initiation ritual, so you likely won’t get tricked into making one.
While on that subject, one of the ways you can join the trickery is by deliberately messing up the Midnight Blades token hand in, as you get a clue on how to join them from it. The game is surprisingly interconnected like that in a good way. But there will be other ways to join them when you’re in Kaifeng.
Hopefully this highlights what to expect from the Sect feature in Where Winds Meet, and what the other Sects on the menu may do in future patches.
