As you log into Where Winds Meet, you will be greeted with an overly familiar souls-like, ARPG combat system. And while the game is not exactly a souls-like, it will have systems that you are familiar with from the genre. Take for example, healing. Yes, you will need to do the classical upgrade your flask over time, alongside replenish at a safe stone. Yet, there are a few intricacies with the system that make it a bit different. Here’s a look at how to get and upgrade medicine in Where Winds Meet.

If you’re low, you can either purchase medicines from traders, or craft them yourself at Crafting Zones around the map. Image via Gamer Guides / NetEase.

To get medicine in Where Winds Meet, you need to visit a boundary stone. These are the fast travel waypoints around the map that you can visit the first time to unlock them. Then, from the map, you can fast travel to them at any point.

When you go to one of these shrines, they will give you a stockpile of your healing items. They are often known in game as Hemostatic Powders, which you can place into your medicine slot in the quick use tab in your bag.

However, the system differentiates a bit from Souls games, as you have a quantity. You can run out of these medicines, which will stop refilling even after visiting a shrine. This is important, as we found out you can run out of medicines fairly quickly if you’re getting beat by a few bosses here and there.
To get more of these medicines, you need to visit a Crafting Zone, located by the large Anvil on the world map. You can find these Crafting Zones in the following locations:

  • Heaven’s Pier
  • Harvest Fall Village
  • Fairgrounds, Kaifeng City

Upon visiting these locations, you can then find the medicine crafting station, often marked by the bronze kettle type station near a fireplace. Here, you can craft various medicines, such as Hemostatic Powders, and if you have the Healer career specialization, you can get other versions of healing items too.

But, your bog standard Hemostatic Powder healing item requires: 4 stamina,1 herb and 1 meat scrap per craft.

You can find these items in the wild while hunting and gathering. Or you can buy them fairly cheaply from the Merchants in various towns and villages. You can even buy the powders themselves, but they get very expensive.

When you have spare Hemostatic Powders or other medicine, slot them into your medicine quick slot, and then visit a Boundary Stone, and they should refill.

How to Upgrade Medicine in Where Winds Meet

Like in Souls games, you can gradually upgrade the strength of your quick healing items in combat. To do so, you need to do the following things:

  1. Unlock the Evercare Clinic at the Still Shore Landmark
  2. Speak to Yao at the clinic building entrance and select the Submit Tales of Medicine option
  3. Hand over Medicinal Tales items to upgrade the Medicine Chest

Each level of the Medicine Chest will upgrade your Hemostatic Powders abilities. It can range from the amount carryable at a given time, the medicine recovery strength, and buff an additional HoT (heal over time) effect per second for a short duration. You can cycle through the different levels to see what bonuses you get at a given time.

How to Get Medicinal Tales

Defeating powerful world bosses to completing huge side missions typically give you crafting materials to upgrade your medicines in Where Winds Meet. Image via Gamer Guides / NetEase.

To get Medicinal Tales, you will often require:

  • Defeating story bosses fro the first time
  • Side Mission Dungeons
  • World Bosses
  • Other harder to beat activities

Typically, you get 1 for all of the Side Story dungeon type locations, with there being seven of them in Qinghe, with a final one unlocked when you cap your Qinghe exploration. There are also at least seven in Kaifeng too, with more side missions unlocking in later patches.

You can also get three for completing each world boss. There are three in Kaifeng and six in Qinghe. We recommend you be at least level 30 for the Qinghe ones, and level 50 for the Kaifeng ones. Some are easier to kill solo than others, so maybe get a group for the Snake world boss and the Puppeteers. The Earth Fiend Deity, Yi Dao, and Twin Lions are fairly easy enough to solo as world bosses.

Beating a campaign chapter end boss for the first also awards some Medicinal Tales, which unlock farmable dungeons for gear. So, there are plenty of ways to get them. You will need a lot of them to get all the levels of the Medicinal Tales, so they’ll be a long grind as you progress through the various world content and missions in the game.

This concludes everything you need to know about how healing works in Where Winds Meet.
