Mount Fay is one of the areas players can visit in Act, which will require players to do a lot of platforming to get the double jump skill ("Faydown Cloak" iconFaydown Cloak). To get this, you will first need to complete the Underworks area, and grab yourself the "Clawline" iconClawline skill, as you’ll need to hook onto the rings and zip over to enemies to pogo your way up the Mount Fay region. Here’s everything you need to know to explore Mount Fay in Hollow Knight Silksong, and get the double jump skill from the Faydown Cloak.

How to start Mount Fay

To start Mount Fay, you need to do the following:

  1. Enter the Slab from the Choral Chambers.
  2. Go into the Slab and follow the pathway left and down.
  3. Keep going down, and you should enter an area on the right with a bench, and a left area for your bell beast travel friend. After that you enter the Mount Fay region.

Now, be warned here, as players need to do some timed parkour as they will slowly freeze to death. Once the grace period ends, you’ll lose a mask a second, which will very quickly kill you.

To start, head left with your Clawline skill, and make it to the cave in the bottom left of the area. It will allow you to enter and find "Shakra" iconShakra by a fire. Get the Mount Fay map and you should now be somewhat clearer on where to go.

Now, to progress, you need to follow the route we have traced on the map above to explore Mount Fay. The area will require practice, so we’ve included the bench locations too. The route also takes you through the intended parkour and platforming routes, which also lead to the heat sources. Some of the heat sources will be on flat pathways, while others that progress through the larger vertical chambers will be on the wall.

If you want more assistance we have a Hollow Knight Silksong interactive map. This can help you track missable rewards, and other heat sources to help you travel this area.

Tips for reaching the summit and other rewards

As for general tips for this area, we recommend that you stop spamming the jump button. When you Clawline to one of the floating enemies you get a bounce off, jumping will interrupt your bounce. Let the bounce reach its peak before dashing or jumping as that typically is how you reach the next enemy. Messing this up normally means you mish your Clawline or dash, and that means falling down and starting over.

In the inner cave areas, there will be some cold water areas. Once again, use the Clawline to control the bounce between enemies and the rings. You can find stalactites that you can also knock to get a platform break if you need it. Though they are few and far between.

Keep in mind you’re going to need a reservoir of silk for some of the moves. In the upper vertical room before the third bench, you may want to farm the enemy that respawns and then dash back to the wall fire to restock. The same can be said at the start of the second bench where you have to platform through the snow lift area. Hit the first enemy up to three times then run back to the fire. It should help the awkward platforming to come in those areas. Spools of silk do seem to respawn on a timer and when you leave the area and come back. So, if you see any spools, typically in the inner cave areas, then feel free to go back and grab them. Tactically dying in a good spot is also good as you can hit your death cocoon and get a lot of silk back that way.

Also, as a final note, when inside or when you go into the out-of-bounds parts of the map, these areas are filled with hazards. You will want to control your movement with the glide skill, or cling to the flat ledges and control how you bounce around. They are often easy to avoid with a good wall cling jump, combos with a glide and/or dash.
