Widow Boss Guide
All Sinner's Road Benches Locations and How to Activate Them
There are many hidden things to be found in Hollow Knight Silksong, which include various areas you can explore. One of these areas is The Slab, a prison that you might find yourself trapped in, should you get caught by the
Wardenfly. However, should this happen, then you will be stripped of your possessions and have to sneak your way through the place to get them back. Read on to find out how to enter The Slab, as well as how to navigate your way through the place.
How to Enter The Slab - Wardenfly Locations¶
There are actually two ways to enter The Slab, one from being caught by a Wardenfly, and the other once you start Act 2 of the main story. Wardenflies are special enemies that can be found around the map, who can trap you in their cage to transport you into The Slab. There are a few locations for a Wardenfly, with one of the first ones you can find being in the Deep Docks area. This requires the
Cling Grip ability, so you won’t be able to get to it until you defeat
Sister Splinter. The other Wardenfly location discovered is in Bilewater, although if you killed or can’t find the other one, you might want to wait until you get the
Faydown Cloak (double jump). This will make navigating Bilewater a lot easier, since the liquid here prevents you from healing your health, until you clear it off of you first.
When Wardenflies spit their goop at you, let it hit you to become temporarily incapacitated.
While you’re trapped, they will use their cage on you and send you to The Slab.
The Slab Entrance - Choral Chambers¶
Note that once you get captured, or visit The Slab, you will no longer find these enemies out in the wild. Of course, that’s not the only way to enter The Slab, as you can get here through natural exploration. You won’t be able to do this until you reach Act 2, though, as it requires you to be able to access Choral Chambers. In the southwestern corner of Choral Chambers, there is a long bridge that extends straight to The Slab. If you come here via this method, you will retain all of your items, so it’ll be much easier to explore the place.
Key of Indolent Location¶
Once you see your character again, wiggle the controller to shake the cage and break free. As mentioned above, you will have the majority of your equipment and items taken from you, which also includes your Crests. So, you’re pretty much left with a basic weapon and your basic healing. You do have your abilities, like the wall jump and dash, but you cannot float, since your cloak was taken. The main goal of The Slab is to find two keys (a third key is gotten from another area), then get to the fast travel station. Ignore all exits and go all the way to the bottom, then go into the room on the left.
This looks like a dead end, but you can break the ceiling right above the locked door. When you reach the outside, you’ll notice it’s very cold and if you stay too long, you’re start losing health. It’s best to ignore the enemies you encounter, since you’ll be incredibly weak. When you fall down the next chasm, go to the right to find Grindle, although he won’t do anything to help you. To the left, at the end of the next hall, will be an item hanging from a chain. Strike it a few times to get the
Key of Indolent. Go back to the right and use the key on the locked door there to continue.
(1 of 4) The room with the locked Indolent door has a ceiling you can break to continue.
The Slab - Map Location and Benches¶
You’ll be in the main vertical area and if you go up, you can break the ceiling on the right side to create a shortcut to this lower section. The first door on the left up here has a locked door that requires the Key of Indolent, so go through there if you want. To continue, go down into the lower area and enter the room with the bench sign. The first Bench will be right behind Grindle, so use it, then continue right to find an opening in the wall.
In this little tunnel will be a body at the end, which you can inspect to get the map for The Slab. Return to the vertical corridor and head to the bottom, then go right (left leads to a room with a Flea in a cage you can break). There’s a room you can enter here, where you can hear someone, but there’s nothing else in there. The locked door takes the Indolent key, which leads to an area with pressure plates that summon a spiked ball on the track. Go all the way to the end for a monster arena, although you can use the traps here to make your work a lot easier. Once you’re done, the exit leads to another outside spot, although you won’t get cold here.
At the bottom of the vertical shaft, go left first to find a trapped Flea.
Right leads to an enemy arena, but you can use the traps to help you defeat them all.
Make your way to the point where you see a dead end on the right, then look for a breakable wall to the left. This just takes you to an item and another wall to break, leading to a shortcut back to the vertical corridor. Back in the outside area, climb all the way to the top, for an exit that leads to another cold area. Unfortunately, this is a bigger section and you’ll need to traverse it. Ignore the enemies and keep a lookout for the torched areas, which will keep you warm. You’ll have to pass a single enemy here to get to the far left side, where you should hit the lever to open the shortcut door. Down the hole and to the left will be the second Bench.
Retrieving Your Items¶
From the second Bench, continue your descent in this passage and you’ll eventually reach a room with some enemies below you. When you feel like you’re ready, initiate the attack (cool little thing here), which will then trigger a battle arena. You’ll have all your gear back the moment you start, although you won’t have anything equipped, so you might still be a little bit nerfed. Defeat all of the enemies here and your reward will be the
Key of Heretic, needed to unlock some more doors in this dungeon. Note that the third key, the
Key of Apostate isn’t found here, so don’t worry about searching high and low for it.
The third Bench will be to the right of the arena, so use it to rest and re-equip stuff before carrying on. Open the door with your new key to the right, then go all the way to the bottom in the vertical shaft, where there’s another Heretic lock. When you reach the very bottom of where you can go, you’ll see the floor below you can be opened, but not from this side. There’s a gate on the right that blocks you from going that way, meaning the only way to continue is to the left. Instead of opting to go down the hole, head up and to the right to find a hole in the ceiling.
(1 of 5) The areas with the torches will help you to stay warm when outside in the cold.
This leads you to another cold area, although it’s short-lived, as you can go up to find a
Spool Fragment. Return to the previous room and go down the hole now, fighting through some enemies and breaking through gates at the ends to reach another area with the Bellway, as well as the fourth Bench on the right. To the left of the Bellway is the entrance to Mount Fay, but there’s nothing you can do there for now, so ignore it.
That about wraps it up here in The Slab, so you can leave via using the fast travel to go anywhere else. If you don’t have enough
Rosaries to unlock it, farm the enemies above until you do. There’s more to find in The Slab, though, but it requires the Key of Apostate, which you can’t get until later in Act 2.
