Moss Grotto Secret Areas: Hidden mini crafting boss and currency
Bell Beast Boss Guide
You’ll come across plenty of bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong, some of which might give you trouble. The first boss of the game is encountered in the Ruined Chapel area of Moss Grotto, the opening area, and is called the Moss Mother. It’s not a particularly difficult boss fight, but it is easy to get overwhelmed, especially if you’re new to the series. This page will detail all of the attacks from the Moss Mother, as well as the strategy to easily defeat her.
Moss Mother is the first boss that you will face in Silksong.
Moss Mother’s Attacks¶
The following list are all of the attacks you will see from the Moss Mother. There aren’t too many, and most of them are easy to dodge, especially if you’re playing defensively.
-
Divebomb: The Moss Mother will essentially do a divebomb attack, while moving across the battlefield. If you’re playing cautiously, then this is easily avoidable by jumping over it.
-
Ceiling Crash: After doing 2-3 Divebombs, you will see the Moss Mother fly upward and crash into the ceiling, causing some debris to fall down. Look for the dust falling, which indicates the spots where the debris will fall. Note that sometimes, the little larva enemies will drop.
Moss Mother Boss Strategy¶
For being the first boss, the Moss Mother is fairly simple and doesn’t really have more than the two above attacks in her arsenal. The main point to this battle, especially if you haven’t played the first game, is to play a bit defensively. The swooping divebomb attack can be hard to dodge a bit, if you’re being aggressive, which will cause you to take unnecessary hits. The best way to handle it is to wait for the Moss Mother to go across the screen and try to do the downward attack that goes at an angle.
Other than that attack, the ceiling crash one is very easy to avoid, since the Moss Mother won’t be moving around when the debris falls. They’re also marked, so you don’t have to worry about random things hitting you. Whenever you see the little larvae fall down, you should immediately go after them to defeat them, as you don’t want to accidentally run into them while avoiding the boss’ attacks. Most of the time, you should be able to easily dispatch them before the boss starts moving again.
You don’t receive anything special for defeating this boss, like in some other games, but you will be able to continue on with the story!
