Hollow Knight Silksong is now live, and like the first game, there’s plenty of hidden areas to get to straight away. But, surprisingly, one of the secret areas is right next to your spawn. Other secret areas around the level are also good with decent currency and crafting resources. one even as a mini boss too with a really good crafting materials from it. Here’s where you need to go.
Moss Grotto Secret Area Mini Boss¶
As you start the game and wake up:
- go right.
- There’s a hidden platform in the moss wall. You will enter a room to get some small shards and a silk wrap to cap your Blink move.
- Jump up again to the top right corner and you should find a secret ledge with a big beast inside.
To defeat the beast, you need to hit it a few times. Three seems the max when it first wakes up.
- Run out of the boss room and drop into the room below.
- Wait for it to stop rolling around then jump back in.
- Hit it about two times then head out. Two hits seems enough time to run out of that room back to safety.
- Rinse and repeat until it rolls away and dies.
You will get a Beast Shard, an time that contains 140 shards. Considering the starter cap is 400. That is a lot of shards to save up in your inventory ready for some big crafting when you get to that feature.

Other secret areas in Moss Grotto¶
When you wake up, go left and follow the platform section where the pond is. Swim in the pond to access another secret room. There’s a fee silk worms here and some shards you can break from the walls.
Advance through the mission some more, and now, you can find a platforming section with a big wide hole vertically. At various stages, there’s a few missables here.
The bottom bit, which is situated right above where you wake up is a Frayed Rosary String, which contains 28 rosaries. This is a currency item.

Further up that section, there’s another hidden pathway. Make your way to the Ruined Temple as normal, and then get the save there. Exit, and then drop down, sticking to the left side. There’s a ledge with a vine pathway you can cut through to enter. Inside is a pot that contains 28 Rosaries for your currency collection. There’s two wasps in there too to kill fro some more small shards.
