Crests are items you can find in Hollow Knight: Silksong, which are basically different movesets for Hornet. You start the game with the Hunter’s Crest, but you will be able to find more as you explore the game’s world. One of the first ones you can obtain is the Wanderer’s Crest, located in the Wormways region. You can get this Crest relatively early, too, as soon as you have access to the Mosshome area. It’s a bit of a long process and it will be challenging, but this page will describe exactly how to unlock the Wanderer’s Crest.

The Wanderer’s Crest unlocks a new moveset for Hornet.

Where to Find the Wanderer’s Crest Early

Before you do anything, you’re going to need to farm, as the entrance to the Warmways area is locked behind a door that requires the Simple Key. You can purchase one in Bone Bottom, from the vendor there, for a whopping 500 Rosaries. Considering the scarcity of Rosaries in the early game, you’ll need to wait until you have access to Mosshome. This will require you to go through a little bit of The Marrow, until you meet up with Shakra. She is the person that sells you maps in this game, so it’s hard to miss her.

Climb to the ledge up and to the left of her to find a Bench, which will be the starting point for the farm. Exit to the left of the Bench to find an area with five enemies that drop Rosaries. After defeating them all, return to the Bench to rest and respawn them. For more details, check out the Best Rosary Farming Spots page. Saving for the Simple Key will take a little bit, around 20-30 minutes, depending on how quickly you can establish a good rhythm.

Simple Key Door Location

Once you have the 500 Rosaries (and maybe a little extra?), return to the vendor in Bone Bottom and purchase the Simple Key. With that in your inventory, make your way back up to Mosshome and find the exit that brings you to an outside area with some hanging cages. Your goal here is to get to the far left side, and there are two ways to actually do this. The first is by waiting for the one flying bug near the first cage to get to your level, then you jump and pogo bounce off of it to grab the edge of the cage.

(1 of 3) You’ll need to purchase the Simple Key before you can go after this item.

If this might be a little difficult for you, you can return to Mosshome and climb up to the ledge that had the Choral Commandment. Stand at the edge and make a full jump while holding left, and you should land on that first cage. From there, you want to make another full jump to the left, then try and pogo bounce off of the bug on the side of the second cage. If you miss, though, don’t worry, as the momentum should carry you to a fallen cage towards the bottom. If you land there, simply climb up to reach the exit on the left side.

This room can be a little tricky, as there is a creature on the ceiling that spews acid at intervals. Lucky for you, there are platforms strewn about that will protect you from the acid. So, simply wait for the creature to just stop spitting the acid, then hurry to the left and under the next platform. When you reach the end, hide under the ledge and wait for an opening to rush to the exit. The Simple Key door will now be right in front of you, but you can find a Mask Shard in a secret alcove below you first, if you want.

Wormways

Simply head to the ledge, avoiding the worms that come out of the ceiling, until you see an opening on the ground. Down here, keep falling down, making sure you hold to the sides of the walls to avoid hitting any potential spikes. You’ll also need to time your descent with the worms that fall, but once you reach the bottom, take the exit. This might seem like a dead end here, but you can break the wall to your right, leading to a big room with a few familiar enemies. Ignore the exit to the top right and just fall down here.

(1 of 5) Hide underneath the platforms to avoid the creature’s acid vomit.

At the bottom, you should land on a bridge/pier or in the water. Go to the right first and destroy the vines covering the bone door, which will open it and provide a shortcut back towards Bone Bottom. Once you’ve done that, journey to the left and you will see a building. Enter it to discover the Chapel of the Wanderer.

Chapel of the Wanderer

There are a number of the tripwires in here, so be careful while exploring, as it’s easy to set off the traps and take unnecessary damage. Go down the right side and a hole will open up, dropping you further. Enter the room on the left to get thrown into a combat arena. There are four waves of enemies and it can be quite challenging, especially with the annoying flying bugs. However, your pogo/downward air attack can be a great help here, especially with the one large enemy that rolls around a lot.

(1 of 4) There are a good number of tripwire traps in the chapel.

After clearing all waves, head left and up, then attack the ceiling here to create a shortcut. Return to the bottom and then to the right to find something you can “claim,” so just press the button when it appears to finally get the Wanderer’s Crest!

Wanderer Crest’s Moveset

The Wanderer’s Crest will be instantly equipped when you unlock it and it’s a little quicker than your starting one. Additionally, instead of the diagonal pogo bounce attack, the down air attack will be straight down, reminiscent of the main character’s attack from the first game. The Wanderer’s Crest also has two yellow Charm slots from the beginning, as well as one red Charm slot. You’ll be able to unlock more slots with Memory Fragments, like with all other crests, though.
