The Architect Key is one of the optional finds for players to unlock optional rewards in Hollow Knight Silksong. The Architect Key is used on a locked door to the left of the the Architect NPC, which you can access when you unlock the Clawline skill. Here’s everything you need to know to get the Architect Key in Hollow Knight Silksong and grab the Architect Crest reward.
Architect Key Requirements¶

To get the Architect Key, you need to speak to the NPC in the room. To purchase the item, you need to have either
- 12 offensive tool kits
- or 25 total toolkits.
The maths is a bit weird for unlocking it.
Some of the easiest sources of toolkits you can get is via the Simple Key rooms. There’s four on your travels you can find, and two we know of go to area with Toolkit rewards via Deep Docks and the Wyrmway. There’s also the traders in Bone Bottom, Far Field, the Songhaven, Forge Daughter and the of course the 12th architect if you have spare craftmetal (also, the Architect sells another Crafting Kit, which you should definitely buy when you have the spare rosaries).
Outside of that, you need to do bits of exploring to find item pickups. We have an Hollow Knight: Silksong interactive map where you can filter by tools on the left menu by scrolling down a little if you’d like to make it easier on yourself. Double check what you already have in your menu, and then check our map to see easy to reach ones you may have missed.
When you have the required amount, you can now purchase the Architect Key for 110 Rosaries.
The Architect’s Crest¶

Now, you can use the Architect’s Key on the door towards the upper left part as you exit the architect’s house. You can find the ornate door in the far left of the room. Simply use the Architect Key on the door and open it. Once it opens, head inside, and you will get the Architect Crest with no challenge, unlike the Reaper Crest and Wanderer Crest.
The unique thing about the Architect’s Crest is that it allows you to use Silk to restore ammunition for your offensive tools without needing to rest. You also get a spinning, drill attack rather than the Wanderer’s pogo or the Reaper’s sickle slash. So, if you’re someone who is using the toolkit to help beat phases of certain hard boss fights, and can easily generate silk back, then this might be the Crest for you.
