Fourth Chorus Boss Guide

As you backtrack through the Far Fields, the Fourth Chorus will rouse from its slumber and attack!

Dwelling in the magmatic depths of the Far Fields you’ll run afoul of the Fourth Chorus. To encounter this boss you’ll need to defeat Lace in the Deep Docks, progress to the Far Fields, and continue until you reach the Seamstress, who will promise to upgrade your cloak if you complete the Flexible Spines wish. Once you have the Drifter’s Cloak backtrack west and your passage back will be challenged by this behemoth, once dormant, now roused to fury. This page will provide strategies for the Fourth Chorus boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Fourth Chorus’s Attacks

The Fourth Chorus is a pretty formulaic boss - you’re fighting on a platform of dubious durability and the boss’s attacks can destroy these platforms, depriving you of space to maneuver while also putting you at risk of falling into the magma below. It’s a gimmick that’s been in platformers for decades now, and it adds just enough complexity to justify the Fourth Chorus’s otherwise shallow arsenal of attacks.

When the Fourth Chorus raises one of its upper hands,

move away, as it’ll smash that hand down, destroying part of the platforms you’re on in the process.

  • Platform Smash: The Fourth Chorus’s main attack, around which the entire gimmick of this battle revolves. The Fourth Chorus will raise one of its upper hands into the sky (the offending hand will flash), then slam it down on the ground roughly below, destroying one or two segments of the platform you’re standing on. This attack is well telegraphed, but keep in mind that the Fourth Chorus can move its hand a bit as it slams downward, so don’t get cute and try to stand too close. This attack should have little chance of hitting you, the real bother is the decreasing ground you’ll have to stand on.

When one of the Fourth Chorus’s lower hands glow,

be prepared to jump over a swipe!

  • Swipe: One of the Fourth Chorus’s lower hands will flash, being reared to the side before swiping across the arena, just above the platform you’re fighting from. A decently-timed jump will avoid this, swift stepping makes it easier, and using your Drifter’s Cloak to glide trivializes the attack

When the Fourth Chorus starts slamming the roof, be wary of falling fiery boulders.

  • Magma Avalanche: The Fourth Chorus will start slamming both of its upper arms into the ceiling, sending flaming boulders cascading down randomly. They don’t move all that fast and Hornet has pretty good air control, so they should be fairly easy to dodge.

Fourth Chorus Strategy

If you read the attacks above, you should notice two things: 1) This boss has a lot of tells, and 2) we said all of its attacks were easy to dodge. Both of these are true and not a flex, and while we think this boss is somewhat easy, it does have some things going for it. First, this boss is very durable - expect to spend 3-4 minutes chopping away at it before it falls. Second, the boss will pick up its tempo a bit as it sustains damage, making the end of the fight more hectic than the start. Third, the sheer durability of this boss and the randomness of its attacks makes this sort of a test of patience, even moreso than the other bosses.

To defeat the Fourth Chorus you’ll need to jump up and attack the head, and it’s important to note that the head cannot deal damage to you, so you don’t have to try to avoid coming into contact with the head with Hornet, making this fight a bit simpler than it otherwise could have been. Most of The Fourth Chorus’s attacks are easy to dodge, but your own attacks have some commitment cost to them as well - you can change Hornet’s direction in midair, but your ability to dodge isn’t as great as when you’re on the ground and if you get greedy you’ll probably take some damage. It’s also not easy to hit the Fourth Chorus all the time - you’ll need to get a good bit of height on your jump to land a strike and if the Fourth Chorus’s head is over magma (likely due to its attacks hitting the ground below) you’re better off not attacking.

The Fourth Chorus’s attacks are easy to dodge, but your own attacks require you to jump, and the boss has a lot of health - be patient, pick your shots, and you’ll eventually fell this behemoth.

Your first priority should be to avoid damage, only landing hits when it’s safe, which essentially means when the Fourth Chorus isn’t attacking itself and when its head is over solid ground. Sometimes you’ll just need to concentrate on not taking damage, and time is on your side, as platforms will respawn eventually, making it easier for you to carry out your assault.

Be patient, take what the boss gives you, and eventually you’ll prevail, making your way back to the earlier parts of Pharloom with a new traversal ability at your disposal!
