The Needle is our primary weapon in Hollow Knight Silskong, and will be the main way you deal damage, outside of tool usage. While the weapon stays the same for the most part, the Needle can be upgraded later on in the game via the Pale Oil items that you can find for a Wish. Here is everything you need to know for all needle upgrades in Hollow Knight Silksong.

All Needle Upgrades in Silksong¶

To upgrade the Needle you need to get the Pale Oil items and deliver them to Pinmaster’s Oil in Bellhart. You will need to defeat Widow, who is in one of the chambers above Bellhart accessible via Shellwood’s top right entrance that drops into the Bellhart area.

The source of the items come from a few different sources, such as map pickups or wish completion.

3	Choral Chambers	In Act 2, go to the dining area on the left side of the Choral Chambers area to the left of the Cogwork Core area. Speak to the NPC hiding at the back of the hall to get the Great Taste of Pharloom Wish. You need to collect various items scattered around the map.	Map Marker
4	Cogwork Core / Whispering Vault	Progress through Whispering Vault then follow the middle left pathway that takes you to a puzzle area with the movable blocks. It will take you to a room in the Cogwork Core with the Pale Oil Location to pick up.	Map Marker

As it stands, these are the four Pale Oil locations we have found so far. These should be able to upgrade your weapon significantly, which should help you take on some of the harder bosses.

Don’t forget, there are lots of Crafting Kits as well, which will improve the damage of your tool belt too. It’s something else you should do to help take on the more difficult bosses in the game, such as Croak in Bilewater.
