Where to find the White-Robed Elder and Complete His Quest
Where to find the Fang Yao and Complete Her Quest
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers has an abundance of NPC quests in the game, and Nian Suichang is one of them. Arguably one of the longer quests in this game, Nian is a self-proclaimed hero, who wants to get stronger. Jealous of your deeds, he treats your journey like a competition, but throughout it, it hits home how difficult it is for him, making him more jealous. This quest is easily broken due to the open nature of Chapter 2 and 3. Read on to make sure you don’t miss a single meeting with him.
Nian Suichang is a warrior that wants to help people, but is embarrassed by his lack of strength.

First Meeting - Worship’s Rise: Lightzen Temple¶
After defeating the boss at
Lightzen Temple, your next step is to head to
Shu Sanctum. In between the Temple and the Sanctum is a path called the Narrow Stretch. Nian can be found at the intersection at the bottom of the path leading to the upper part of Worship’s Rise, which is just after you enter the Narrow Stretch. Continuing on the bottom path till take you to the Panda and storyteller.
Nian is easily spotted due to his straw hat, and you’ll find him leaning against the tree at the bottom of the stairs to Worship’s Rise. When you find him, exhaust his dialogue, and agree to help him. This will reward you with the
Well Met Pose as well as the
Bone Whistle, which can be used to summon NPCs to boss fights.
Nian will be by the tree near the stairs leading up to Worship’s Rise.
He will give you the Well Met Pose and Bone Whistle if you agree to help him.
Second Meeting - Worship’s Rise: Shu Sanctum¶
The second meeting with Nian is a brief one. You’ll find him right next to the Shu Sanctum shrine. Exhaust his dialogue, and he’ll remind you about the Bone Whistle.
Speak to Nian next to the Shu Sanctum shrine, and he’ll remind you about the Bone Whistle.
Third Meeting - Worship’s Rise: Shu Sanctum¶
For this meeting, you’ll need to use the Bone Whistle he gave you earlier during the boss battle at the top of Shu Sanctum, which is a story boss and cannot be missed. From the Shu Sanctum shrine, make your way to the top of the Sanctum by following the a few sets of stairs up, and eventually you’ll reach a door you can interact with.
This is the boss, so make sure you have the Bone Whistle equipped to your shortcuts, and be prepared to use it as soon as you get in. Nian will get summoned for the fight, thanks to the whistle, and even if he dies during the battle, he’ll be fine outside of it, so you don’t need to keep him alive during fight.
After the battle, speak to him next to the shrine again for some unique dialogue, and hand over the
Mercurial Blood Key Item obtained from the boss to receive 3x
Soft Rush. After the conversation, he’ll tell you that he’s going to return to
Reverent Temple. Note that if you don’t give him the Mercurial Blood here, his quest will end and you will not see him again.
Go back to Nian at the Shu Sanctum Shrine and hand over the Mercurial Blood to him.
Fourth Meeting - Worship’s Rise: Reverent Temple¶
Teleport to the Reverent Temple shrine, and you’ll find Nian on the second floor, with his dying brother, Qiao Lin. However, the Mercurial Blood you gave him is being used to treat Qiao Lin, according to Xuanyangzi. Speak to Nian and exhaust his dialogue for 3x
Kong Wine.
Return to Reverent Temple, go to the second floor, and speak to Nian, who’ll tell you that his brother is recovering.
Fifth Meeting - Worship’s Rise: Reverent Temple¶
Nian can be located at the bottom of the stairs at Reverent Temple, but this won’t happen until you defeat the story boss in the
Lotus Pond of Tang Emperor’s Palace. After defeating the boss, head to Reverent Temple, go down the stairs, and go left to the locked door. If you speak to him before you open the door, he’ll talk about how to get it open. After opening it with the
Reverent Temple Key you got, he’ll give you 5x
Spicy Soup.
Open the door on the left side of the courtyard in Reverent Temple and speak to Nian.
He’ll give you five Spicy Soups as a thanks. This will progress his quest.
Sixth Meeting - Hillswatch¶
With the warning in mind. Progress through Hillswatch until you get to the end. There will be stairs leading up to some Temple Ruins (where
Li Dingo & Sun Kewang can be found), and a path to the right of it. Take the path right and you’ll encounter Nian. Speak to him and he’ll mention his missing Pack.
Continue past Nian, and you’ll find the
Tattered Pack along the road, not too far from the Archer enemy at the end of it. Once you’ve obtained the Key Item, go back to Nian, and it hand over to him. This will reward you with the
Sorry Pose. If you don’t give Nian the Tattered Pack here, odds are, you will break his quest, especially if you complete the
Cloudspire Outskirts area before doing so.
(1 of 3) Nian is located at the end of Hillswatch by the stairs leading to the old temple.
Seventh Meeting - Cloudspire Outskirts¶
You’ll need to progress through Cloudspire Outskirts before you meet Nian again. At the end of the area, before the boss gate, you’ll find Nian outside it. Speak to him, and he’ll tell you to summon him for the boss battle (
Rebel Camp).
Once again, equip the Bone Whistle, and call Nian when you enter the boss arena. Defeat the boss, return to Nian in the same location, and exhaust his dialogue. He’ll give you 3x Kong Wine and demand you spar at your next meeting (this won’t happen).
Eighth Meeting - Mt Zhenwu - Refugee Camp¶
The next meeting with Nian takes place in Chapter 3 in the Refugee Camp, a new hub for your NPCs. You’ll find him by the tents near Wu Gang, so head over to him and exhaust his dialogue.
You’ll have a choice here, where you can answer “Nothing” or “Remain Silent.” Select “Remain Silent” and the conversation will end there for the time being. This will reward you with 3x
Emerald Lotus Seeds.
You can find Nian sitting down by the campfire next to the tents.
Exhaust his dialogue, and “Remain Silent” to obtain 3x Emerald Lotus Seeds.
Ninth Meeting - Mt Zhenwu - Refugee Camp¶
Progress through Chapter 3 and defeat the boss in the
Avian Marsh/Dwelling. After the battle, exit the arena from the opposite side, turn right, and then turn right again. There will be a wagon blocking the path, so attack it to remove the obstacle, and continue along the path. This will open a shortcut back to the Refugee Camp and you’ll find Nian near the bridge leading to it.
After defeating the boss, use the scaffolding at the back of the arena to reach Nian, who is by the shortcut.
Tenth Meeting - Mt Zhenwu - Antechamber¶
After defeating the South General (Thunder boss), look above the arena to find Nian on the scaffolding above. Go to the back of the arena, and you’ll find some scaffolding that leads to him and another shortcut. Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue as this allows you to summon him for the next boss at the
Altar Gate.
Return to Nian after the boss for a small reward.
Eleventh Meeting - Mt Zhenwu - Altar Gate/Bamboo Path¶
Continue progressing through Mt Zhenwu until you reach the Altar Gate shrine. The final boss of the Chapter is in the following room. Equip the Bone Whistle and summon him in the boss battle. If you’ve progressed Huang Jian’e’s quest, she’ll also appear alongside Nian. Defeat the boss and rest at the shrine to refresh the area (Enter Dream), and at the opposite side of the arena is where you’ll find Huang Jian’e.
Continue following the path around and you’ll find the Storyteller to the side of the cave and Nian in front of it, standing by the campfire. Note that if Nian doesn’t appear here, exhaust Huang Jian’e’s dialogue, rest at the shrine, and come back to the location mentioned above. After speaking to him the first time, speak to him again to obtain 3x
Special Pills, and he’ll tell you that he’s going back to Worship’s Rise.
Summon Nian for the Chapter 3 final boss fight.
And then speak to him outside the cave to Ferryman’s Overlook, where the storyteller is.
Final Meeting - Worship’s Rise in Ruin - Shu Sanctum¶
Make your way back to Shu Sanctum, as you won’t be able to teleport here for story reasons. Go to the top of Shu Sanctum, go across the red-vine bridge, and take the right path to the top. As you go up the path, be careful of a boulder that gets kicked down it, as well as any enemies along the way. At the top of the path, where the Diving Gift statue is, you’ll find Nian, sitting at the edge of the cliff behind it.
He appears to be sobbing, holding a corpse in his hands, and next to the corpse is a pink item, which is the Key Item,
Sword of Exorcism. Finally, speak to Nian and exhaust his dialogue. Go back to a shrine, Enter the Dream to refresh the world status and then head back to where Nian is. Depending on an earlier choice, you may have to fight him or he will have disappeared. Regardless, you’ll receive the
Zhanlu Sword, Champion’s Armor Set, and the
Sword of Judgment Key Item and the quest will be complete.
At the top of the hill where the Divine Gift statue is, you’ll find Nian for the last time.
Come back to this location after resting at the shrine to find the Zhanlu Sword and the Champion’s armor set.
That’s it for Nian Suichang’s quest line. This is one of the longer and more difficult quests to complete due to the choices you get early on, as well as missing him in Chapter 2 if you go to the Chapter 3 areas first.
