As you progress through WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, you’ll encounter many characters that populate the world, all of which will usually have a questline for you to follow. You’ll first encounter the Boatman almost immediately, sitting at the bottom of Reverent Temple. Keep reading to learn where you can find him each time and how to complete his quest.

First Meeting - Reverent Temple¶

The first meeting is a simple one, and almost impossible to miss. After you leave Reverent Temple for the first time, as you get to the bottom of the stairs, look to your right to find him sitting down. Upon speaking with him, he’ll let you test out your abilities against a boss, this is a one-time deal, although there’s nothing of value for winning the battle.

Second Meeting - Lotus Pond¶

This next meeting is actually optional, we’ve confirmed that you don’t need to complete this in order for his next visit to happen. Follow the pathway left through the Lotus Pond once you enter the Palace from the Doomwillow Beach. Part way down some scaffolding you’ll find a Riddle Door. Answer incorrectly (Feathered Transcendence) and you’ll be whisked off to an area where you can find the Boatman.

Third Meeting - Overlook Ferry¶

It’ll be quite some time before you run into the Boatman again, not until you reach the final area of Chapter 3, Mt. Zhenwu, will you encounter him again at Overlook Ferry. This entire area is optional, but there are some huge story revelations to get and he’ll lend you his boat to access the Bai Mansion.

Fourth Meeting - Overlook Ferry¶

After you defeat Bai Kru at the Bai Mansion area, return to Overlook Ferry and pay him another visit near his boat, he’ll reveal some more information about Wuchang and hand over Li Jiao’s Fang, a powerful Axe for you to make use of, leaving you with a cryptic message.

Fifth Meeting - Palace Pass¶

During Chapter 4, you’ll find the Boatman for the fifth time at the bottom of Palace Pass. You will have to jump off a cliff and land on the Hurricane Circle, which leads to a boss battle against Vermilion Feathers - Honglan. Beat her, and interact with the door to be whisked off to the Palace Entrance. The Boatman is there and he’s very impressed you took down Honglan, giving you a Blood of Changhong in the process.

Final Meeting - Depths of the Capital¶

You can only find the Boatman for the final time if you progress to Chapter 5, which is available on three of the four endings (the Successor of the Bo ending will not get you there). As you progress through the Bo Capital, you’ll find a Riddle Door next to the Depths of the Capital Shrine. You must choose Grand Dream Fades as this will allow you to meet with the Boatman for the final time, who gives you a Lustrous Red Feather in exchange if you answered all of the Riddle Doors correctly. If you didn’t, but you followed his questline through, you’ll get the Ren - Blood Vigor Benediction.

There you have it; you now know how to find and complete the Boatman’s quest in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, a questline that will require you to reach the final stages of the adventure.
