Longsword Parry Build
Temperance Feathering Build
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a soulslike, and like most soulslike games, you’ll have lots of options to tailor your build. These options involve which of the six weapons to choose from, all with their own scaling, what Benedictions you want to equip on them, and what spells to use, if any. Then you have up to three Pendants you can equip, all with useful passives. Finally, you can even choose what Discipling skill you want to unlock. So, as you can see, there are a lot of ways to change up your build, and that’s without mentioning Tempering.

The Solar Leap Build Explained¶
Solar Leap is a Discipline Skill located on the right-hand side of the Spear skill tree. This skill allows you to leap forward and strike the enemy with a stab attack. Any regular spear attacks you used on the enemy beforehand will be converted into Skyborn Might, thanks to the spear’s
Boldheart passive skill. For every two Boldheart stacks, you’ll get one Skyborn Might. The combo for Solar Leap is +

+

-
(

), which translates to a leaping stab - backhand swipe, spinning stab - jumping slash.
This combo does a lot of damage, gives you Skyborn Might, and more often than not, knocks down the enemy, or at least interrupts them. It is a very potent discipline skill, and for that reason, that is why we’ve built the build around it.
Solar Leap and its variants are located on the right side of the tree.
Impetus Repository Skills¶
When it comes down to builds in WUCHANG, the first thing you want to do is know where to spend your
Red Mercury. Below, you’ll find a list of key skills that you’ll need for this build to work. Illusive refers to all the skill nodes of the left side of the tree. If it’s not a weapon skill node, it’s an Illusive skill node. Note that you can respec at any point for free.

These are the main skills you’ll need, but make sure you get all the
Manna Capacity and
Manna Potency skill nodes (Illusive), all
Strong Blade Mastery skill nodes (Spear Mastery), and then for attributes, put points in Vitality, Endurance, and either Agility or Strength (depending on what weapon you use).
Make sure you always upgrade your Spear Mastery by unlocking the Strong Blade nodes. Each node has three levels.
Spear Tree¶
There’s not a lot of choice regarding Spear skills, and you’ll need all the passive skills to get the best out of the build. Out of the disciple skills, you only require Solar Leap and its variants. For the rest of the skill points, focus on the attributes that bolster your health and defense (Vitality), stamina (Endurance), and either Strength or Agility, depending on what weapon you settle on.
Rock Plume isn’t needed, but it’s nice to have against bosses that you die a lot too, as you’ll be in the +90% Madness range anyway, and when you are, Rock Plume will give you Resilience, which makes your attacks more difficult to interrupt.
Every attack with Boldheart places a Boldheart stack on the enemy.
Emboldening Spear lets some of your skills convert the stacks into Skyborn Might. 2 Boldheart stacks for 1 Skyborn Might.
Illusive Tree¶
The Illusive Skill Tree starts with the aptly named Illusive skill node. The more you head left, the more skill nodes that get unlocked. The priority here is the Manna nodes as they’ll give you more healing resources, but other than them, you’ll want the Temper and
Alteration nodes.
The Temper nodes give you an extra charge to the
Temperance consumable (recharges upon rest), and the Alteration skill nodes unlock more acupoints for your Tempering. Finally, you’ll want to make your way to the
Bone Needle - Leech skill node, as that is what this build uses. For the attributes, focus mainly on Vitality and whatever attack attribute your weapon scales with.
Make sure you pick up all the Alteration skills in the Illusive tree.
The same goes for the Temper skills.
Weapons¶
Let’s move on to weapons. There are six to choose from (one is a DLC weapon), and each comes with its own unique Weapon Skill. They also have different scalings. As you will be mainly using Solar Leap with the weapon, you don’t need to worry about their weapon skill too much.
Instead, you’ll want to select the weapon with the best scaling. For Agility builds, we recommend
Gunpowder Spear, and for Strength builds, go for
Cloudpiercer. Here is a list of all the spears you can acqui,re including their scaling, unique skill, and location.
| Weapon | Unique Skill | Base Scaling | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ebb and Flow | Strength II, Agility Level II | Exit |
|
| Steam Chain | Strength Level II, Agility Level III | Purchase from Panda for 1 |
|
| Flame Strike | Strength Level I, Agility Level III | ||
| Unstoppable Force | Strength Level IV, Agility Level II | Mt Zhenwu Temple - Go to the Antechamber, and take the shortcut at the back. Go right, and follow the path up to where the South General boss is. Alternatively, go to refugee camp and take the bridge shortcut into the area. From there, climb the wooden ramparts and head into the tower. Defeat the two Lotus Blight Mages promptly before Blight builds up, and then take a right and right again. You should see some stairs going down. From there, watch for the grave robber, and then go down the ladder. When you reach the bottom, you will need to fight the black bird demon enemies. Defeat them, and in the corner of the dark room is a red box. Open it to get the |

| Blightful Escape | Strength II, Agility Level II | – | |
| Vortex Thrust | Strength II, Agility Level II | This is the DLC weapon and you’ll find it in the Donation Box at the bottom of Reverant Temple. |
There are six spears to choose from (the two missing are Malice Sting and the Dragoncoil Lance).
Each weapon has a unique weapons skill, so pick the weapon with your favorite skill.
Jade Pendants¶
Jade Pendants are accessories that come with useful passive abilities. The earlier ones are quite generic, but as you progress further into the game, your build option opens up a bit more. Here are the Jade Pendants we recommend:
| Jade Pendant | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Increases Stamina recovery speed (+50%) | Worship’s Rise - |
|
| Increases your weapon’s Slash Attack Power but increases damage taken (+20% Slash Damage, +20% Damage Taken) | ||
| Increases the potency of your weapon’s Physical attacks (+10%) |
Some of these Pendants come much later in the game, especially the Dragonling and
Tiger Pendant. However, there are still some useful Pendants to use until then. We recommend using the
Gourd Pendant,
Fiend-Felling Pendant, and the
Lifesteal Pendant until you can get the others. The
Luduan Pendant is also good for early builds, as some attacks will leave you open, taking damage. This helps lower how much you take.
The Eagle Pendant is especially good for the Spear as it’ll increase your Stab damage.
Benedictions¶
There are three slots on each weapon, each one containing a different type of Benediction. The first slot is Oath, and can only equip Oath Benedictions, the second is Memory, and the third is Wisdom. Although you can slot them on both weapons, the effects only work for the weapon equipping them.
| Benediction | Type | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oath | Increases the potency of Backstab attacks | In |
|
| Ren - |
Memory | Obliteration attacks recover a small amount of health | |
| Wisdom | Consecutive attacks increase your damage | Drops from the Commander Honglan boss at the top of Worship’s Rise. |
Most of the set bonuses aren’t very good; however, the Impale set bonus for Spear is. With all three Benedictions equipped, you’ll gain an extra 20% stab damage, and we know that spears love to stab.
By using the three recommended Benedictions, you’ll complete the Impale set bonus, giving you an extra 20% Stab damage.
Tempering¶
Here you’ll find what we use for our Temperance. This allows you to leech more health, keeping you topped up until you get the Skyborn Might to start the Solar Leap spam.
| Acupoint | Needle | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yangchi | Used via tempering to endow your weapon with the ability to leech health from enemies | Unlock it in the Impetus Repository. | |
| Huizhong | Increases the duration of Tempering | Defeat the |

Here’s what we have for our Tempering. Note, the last four slots are universal, so you can put them in any order.
In battle, use the Temperance to coat your weapon with the choices you made in the Temper menu.
Spells¶
Although this isn’t a build that utilizes magic. Some are still worth equipping and using.
| Spell | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Send forth a mask of flame that pursues enemies and causes Burn buildup | Defeat the optional fire-bird elite enemy at the top of Worship’s Rise. | |
| Purchase from the Panda for 3 |
||
| Increase the damage of your next attack | Next to the burning Pyre where the Red-Clad Lady is in |
|
| Summon an ancient magical circle within which recovers HP over time | Agree with the Red-Clad Lady at the |
Although spells aren’t used for this build, there are a few support skills worth taking.
Playstyle¶
Like most builds, you’ll need a Skyborn Might to start it off. This is usually best by dodging an attack; however, you can get it from the last hit of a combo. Once you have one Skyborn Might, use the full Solar Leap combo on the enemy. If you have two Skyborn Might, you’ll knock them to the floor on the second hit. If you hit them enough while they’re down, you’ll get a Skyborn Might back, and you can repeat the combo.
This is pretty much it for the build. Not terribly exciting, but very effective. The only downside is that you will occasionally take damage, reducing your health. That’s why we use the Leech Temperance to circumvent it. This will give you your health back while you’re fishing for Skyborn Might or trading attacks during Solar Leap.
Solar Leap is a powerful attack that can knock down most enemies. Repeating this skill will keep them knocked down.
Note that due to the chance of getting hit during your combos, we recommend changing your armor to suit the enemy you’re fighting. If they’re using weapons, use a set with high stab/slash defense. Fighting someone who punches and kicks a lot? Use a set with high Blunt defense. The same goes for magic enemies/bosses. Always change your armor to suit the situation.
That’s it for the Solar Leap Build. It’s easy and effective at what it does. Locks down enemies while you repeatedly use the Solar Leap combo. You can always throw in the odd weapons skill if you want for more variety. The Cloudpiercer’s Unstoppable Force skill does respectable damage.
