Magic One-Handed Sword Build
Burning Axe Build
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a soulslike, and like most soulslike games, you’ll have lots of options to tailor your build. These options involve which of the six weapons to choose from, all with their own scaling, what Benedictions you want to equip on them, and what spells to use, if any. Then you have up to three Pendants you can equip, all with useful passives. Finally, you can even choose what Discipling skill you want to unlock. So, as you can see, there are a lot of ways to change up your build, and that’s without mentioning Tempering.

The Blademaster Build Explained¶
Blademaster is a Discipline Skill unlocked in the Impetus Repository under the Dual Blades tree. This skill enhances your regular attacks to make them quicker, while also restoring health on a successful Clash. The only downside to this skill is that it requires at least one Skyborn Might for you to activate it, meaning you’ll need to dodge an attack first before you can use it.
When paired with the Leech Tempering,
Leaf Slasher,
Mighty Combination, and
Deadly Shadow, your latter half of the light attack combo and dash attack has the Clash effect, and the final hit of your combo will give you a Skyborn Might.
This allows you to burn down any boss that uses weapons to attack, while being almost invincible due to the health leech. Note that this doesn’t work against martial attacks such as punches and kicks due to Clash not working against them. However, it still makes you strong enough to deal tremendous damage in a short amount of time.
Blademaster is the main skill in this build, hence the name.
Impetus Repository Skills¶
When it comes down to builds in WUCHANG, the first thing you want to do is know where to spend your
Red Mercury. Below, you’ll find a list of key skills that you’ll need for this build to work. Illusive refers to all the skill nodes of the left side of the tree. If it’s not a weapon skill node, it’s an Illusive skill node. Note that you can respec at any point for free.

These are the main skills you’ll need, but make sure you get all the
Manna Capacity and
Manna Potency skill nodes (Illusive), all
Swift Blade Mastery skill nodes (Dual Blades), and then for attributes, put points in Vitality, Endurance, and either Agility or Strength (depending on what weapon you use).
The Dual Blades skill tree starts with Sudden Strike in the top right corner.
The Illusive skill tree starts on the left of the circle with the aptly named skill, Illusive.
Dual Blades Tree¶
Although the main skill of this build is Blademaster and its variants, the other skills are just as important as they’ll give you more Clash opportunities, and Skyborn Might. Blademaster, when used with one Skyborn Might, gives you the Bladeborn buff. This makes your main attacks quicker, allowing you to perform your combos in a shorter amount of time, and when you Clash, you’ll restore some health. The buff lasts for one minute with Blademaster Variant 1, so you’ll need to reapply it a few times during a boss battle, but costing one Skyborn Might, you’ll be able to stay in it for the majority of the battle.
The main reason to take Blademaster is for the quicker attacks, although replenishing your health on a Clash is nice, it’s not needed. With the faster attacks, you’ll get to the 4th, 5th, and 6th attacks a lot quicker, and that is where most of your Clash attacks are when used in conjunction with Leaf Slasher. Also, your 6th attack will give you back one Skyborn Might, thanks to Mighty Combination. Finally, if you’re at 90% or more Madness, Blademaster Variant 2 will give back more health.
The Swift Blades node will increase the level of all your Dual Blades. These are a priority.
Make sure you get the Blademaster Variant skills either side of the main skill. This will increase the duration and increase the restoration effect.
Moving onto the other skills, Wavebreaker allows your heavy and charged heavy attacks to Clash, and if successful, it’ll reward you with one Skyborn Might.
Unmatched gives you the option to use a Skyborn Might to quickly perform a heavy charged attack, and
Swift Warrior makes the fourth light attack give you one Skyborn Might. Finally, Deadly Shadow makes your dash attacks gain Clash, and if a Clash is successful, you’ll gain another Skyborn Might.
The last thing to touch on is that you want to make the Swift Blade skills a priority, as this makes all the Dual Blades level up, making them stronger. Each node has 3 levels, and requires you to use Red Feathers to upgrade them, with the higher levels needing the rarer Feathers. As mentioned above, you’ll see various stat nodes along the way. Prioritize Endurance, either Strength or Agility (depending on the weapon), and Vitality, in that order.
Illusive Tree¶
The Illusive Skill Tree starts with the aptly named Illusive skill node. The more you head left, the more skill nodes get unlocked. The priority here is the Manna nodes as they’ll give you more healing resources, but other than them, you’ll want the Temper and
Alteration nodes.
The Temper nodes give you an extra charge to the
Temperance consumable (recharges upon rest), and the Alteration skill nodes unlock more acupoints for your Tempering. Finally, you’ll want to make your way to the
Bone Needle - Leech skill node, as that is what this build uses. As always, you’ll find stat upgrades along the way, so prioritize the same stats mentioned above.
Make sure you pick up all the Alteration skills in the Illusive tree.
The same goes for the Temper skills.
Weapons¶
Let’s move on to weapons. There are six to choose from (one is a DLC weapon), and each comes with its own unique Weapon Skill. They also have different scalings. We prefer the
Firearm Blades due to Perfect Aim, but this choice is more preference than anything else. We’ll list every weapon below, so you know what you have to work with.
| Weapon | Unique Skill | Base Scaling | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agility Level II | Purchase from Wu Gang at |
||
| Perfect Aim | Agility Level III, Strength Level II | From |
|
| Block | Agility Level V, Strength Level II | ||
| Lightning Conduit | Agility Level II, Strength Level III | Drops from the South General boss, located through the shortcut at the Antechamber shrine in Mt Zhenwu Temple. | |
| Unbroken Onslaught | Agility Level V | Drops from Chimera boss at the end of the Shaft. | |
| Fearless Cleave | Agility Level III, Strength Level II | This is the DLC weapon and you’ll find it in the Donation Box at the bottom of Reverant Temple. |
There’s not a standout best weapon here; play around with their unique skill (this can’t be changed) to find the right weapon for you. Make sure you place your skill points in the attribute for that weapon.
So, for
Bitter Severance, you’ll want to focus your skill points in Agility. For more information regarding the scaling, check out the database entries, as the scaling changes every level after acquiring a Swift Blade mastery.
There are six weapons per weapon type to choose from.
Each weapon has a unique weapon skill as well as scaling.
Jade Pendants¶
Jade Pendants are accessories that come with useful passive abilities. The earlier ones are quite generic, but as you progress further into the game, your build option opens up a bit more. Here are the Jade Pendants we recommend:
| Jade Pendant | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Increases Stamina recovery speed (+50%) | Worship’s Rise - |
|
| Increases your weapon’s Slash Attack Power but increases damage taken (+20% Slash Damage, +20% Damage Taken) | ||
| Increases the potency of your weapon’s Physical attacks (+10%) |
Some of these Pendants come much later in the game, especially the Dragonling and
Tiger Pendant. However, there are still some useful Pendants to use until then. We recommend using the
Gourd Pendant,
Fiend-Felling Pendant, and the
Lifesteal Pendant until you can get the others.
The Dragonling Pendant is great for Dual Blades as it’ll increase your slash attack by 20%, however, it will increase the damage you take by the same amount.
Benedictions¶
The final piece of the puzzle is Benedictions. Three can be equipped to each weapon, giving you six in total. This means you can have two Oaths, two Wisdoms, and two Memory Benedictions equipped. Note that the Benedictions on the secondary weapon only work for the weapon when it’s equipped.
| Benediction | Type | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oath | Increases potency of blocks and clashes | Located in a small chest in the house up the stairs in Bamboo Courtyard. From the Reverant Temple shortcut, take the first left. | |
| Memory | Increases Stamina recovery speed during Skyborn Might | Purchase from Wu Gang at |
|
| Wisdom | Consecutive attacks increase your damage | Drops from the Commander Honglan boss at the top of Worship’s Rise. |
Here are what we consider the best Benedictions for Dual Blades.
Tempering¶
Here you’ll find what we use for our Temperance. This allows you to leech more health, keeping you topped up until you reach the latter stages of your combos for the Clash opportunities as well as increase your damage.
| Acupoint | Needle | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yangchi | Used via tempering to endow your weapon with the ability to leech health from enemies | Unlock it in the Impetus Repository. | |
| Huizhong | Increases the duration of Tempering | Defeat the |

| Tianjing | Taps into your acupoint to slightly increase the Agility Control of the weapon you’re wielding | In |
|
| Xiaoluo | Taps into your acupoint to slightly increase the Strength Control of the weapon you’re wielding | ||
| Jiaoliao | Stimulate your meridians to increase the attack power gained from Tempering | From the |
Here’s what we have for our Tempering. Note, the last four slots are universal, so you can put them in any order.
In battle, use the Temperance to coat your weapon with the choices you made in the Temper menu.
Spells¶
Although this isn’t a build that utilizes magic. Some are still worth equipping and using.
| Spell | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Send forth a mask of flame that pursues enemies and causes Burn buildup | Defeat the optional fire-bird elite enemy at the top of Worship’s Rise. | |
| Purchase from the Panda for 3 |
||
| Increase the damage of your next attack | Next to the burning Pyre where the Red-Clad Lady is in |
|
| Summon an ancient magical circle within which recovers HP over time | Agree with the Red-Clad Lady at the |
Although spells aren’t used for this build, there are a few support skills worth taking.
Playstyle¶
Once you have everything in place, you’ll generally start a battle by fishing for a Skyborn Might. This can be through attack combos (risky), dodging an enemy’s attack ( the best way), or using a dash attack to clash with the enemy while having Deadly Shadow unlocked (somewhat risky). Once you have a Skyborn Might, use Blademaster to gain the Bladeborn buff, and now you can go to town.
Use the weapon skill Perfect Aim (if you’re using Firearm Blades) to create openings for light combo strings to generate more Skyborn Might (Swift Warrior), and opportunities to get behind enemies for heavy backstabs. However, you could use the other weapons’ weapon skills in different ways to achieve the same outcome.
Use the spare Skyborn Might to activate Unmatched (instant heavy attack), which then allows you to Clash due to
Wave Breaker, while also nullifying enemy attacks. This also generates more Skyborn Might on Clash. Having Leaf Slasher allows your fourth, fifth, and sixth attacks in the light combo to also generate Clash. But the first three attacks will restore enough health that you can just power through enemy hits, even though they do not Clash.
Using a Blademaster enhanced heavy charged attack from behind is deadly.
You’ll have Clash on tap with your heavy attack, and with your light combo speed buffed with Blademaster (plus Leech Temper), you have enough health regeneration and Clash ability to attack an enemy nonstop, without having to worry about being hit or losing health, because you regenerate it so fast.

That’s it for the Blademaster build. This build can be changed a bit by using the
Thunder’s Call and Bitter Severance weapon for more status buildup (Lightning and Poise). Simply equip the weapon and change the Benedictions to the status of your choice. You may want to unlock the Impetus Repository skill for that specific status buildup, too. Finally, equip a Pendant that enhances that status, as well as the Bone Needle for the Tempering.
