Feathering Explained¶
Here’s an in-depth look at a Feathering build in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
Feathering is one of the magical damage stats in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers. Some weapons are designed to validate Feathering builds, through the Feathering Attack power levels, alongside the scalings available to each weapon. Furthermore, the game has many spells, some falling into the Feathering category. These too are affected by scalings, which means that as you level up, and place more points into the Feathering playstyle, you will naturally get some pretty strong spells to use at your disposal.
Strengths:
- Incredibly strong scalings
- Strong Skyborn Might synergy
- Cheap spells with healing
Weaknesses:
- There are only three weapons to pick from
- One weapon drops at the end of Chapter 3. The other two come from Chapter 4 and 5, and so are likely NG+ weapons.
- Dependent on Benedictions to alter weapon scalings.
Key features:
- Corruption: Corruption is a status effect, and when it is fully built, it slowly drains the target’s HP. It’s a fairly strong Damage over Time (DoT) effect.
Alacrity: Alacrity is a buff that occurs when you are attacked while casting a spell. At 50% Madness, you get a Skyborn Might stack. When Alacrity occurs, you also mitigate some of the damage taken. It’s essentially the magic version of Clashing.- Madness: Madness is a game feature that goes up or down, depending on the enemies you kill, or Madness you manually add to yourself via the Shrines. Madness levels can trigger special effects, such as a 10% damage given and taken at 90%, increased
Red Mercury drops, and other effects you can add to your build via the Illusive Impetus Repository tree. Some of these effects you’ll certainly want in your build.
Feathering Weapon Options¶
In terms of your weapons, you have a few choices
| Weapon | Type | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Longsword | Get it from |
|
| One Handed Sword | Complete the Nian Suichang questline in Chapter 4 | |
| One Handed Sword | Defeat one of the main story bosses in Chapter 5. |
If you really want a Feathering build, then you will need to play through the game normally. We recommend familiarizing yourself with the Longsword and One Handed Sword weapons to familiarize yourself with these weapon playstyles. Focus on strength and agility scalings too where applicable so your early game weapon damage remains competitive.
When you reach Chapter 3, you can get your first Feathering Weapon,
Serpent Fang.
Li Dingo gives it to you regardless of how you complete his questline.
- Make sure to visit Overlook Ferry after Mt. Zhenwu main story through the cave, ignoring the Storyteller skipping you to Chapter 4 and visiting the Overlook Ferry at the end of that cave.
- You can typically find him directly under the Overlook Ferry shrine bridge, or on the docks, depending on the quest ending. He’s under the bridge if you ignored him and his brother, or by the pier if you assisted them both.
- If you miss this, then you won’t really get a Feathering Weapon until right at the end of the game.

The best scaling Feathering Weapon is the
Zhanlu Sword. Based on what we’ve learned on our first playthroughs, you need to do the following to get this sword:
- Make sure to speak to Nian Suichang in Chapter 1. Also hand over the Blood from the boss atop the
Shu Sanctum to progress from there. - Proceed to chapter 2 and talk to Nian before you open the door to Cloudspire at the bottom of Reverent Tower.
- In Chapter 2, do not kill the rebel camp boss without finding Nian first.
- You can now defeat the rebel camp North General boss. Nian can be summoned to help fight him if you want.
- Zian then appears again in Chapter 4 by a shrine that resets your Madness. You can find it by crossing the bridge from Shu Sanctum to the cliff edge. From there, take the pathway right, follow the bolder pathway, and proceed up the hill on the left road.
- He gives you a key item to relating to Qiao Lin, his brother. Come back after resting, and you should find the General armor set and the sword on the floor.
The other two come from either one of the main story endings.
Plumed Grace comes from a Chapter 5 main storyline boss, which can technically be missed in one of the endings relating to the several NPC questlines. If you go to Chapter 5 and play through it normally, you’ll find the boss in question without fail.
Impetus Repository¶

Normally, in this section, we typically recommend how to level up and when to focus on placing points in the Illusive Tree. Since this build only activates around late Chapter 3 at the earliest, you will typically have enough points to complete a weapon tree, and start progressing deep into the Illusive tree. Instead, it’s all about what weapon you want to use and where to find the Feathering nodes or scaling synergies.
For the longsword, simply go into the Longsword tree and follow the left column, and get the node down from the Discipline Skill. It has its own subsection of Feathering to dip into.
- Follow the skill tree’s left column, and move towards the Counter discipline skill. The node before it unlocks a new pathway down.
- Grab the feathering nodes from that skill tree area.
- We strongly recommend you get the
Corrosive Flurry discipline skill from the Longsword tree. This builds Corruption, and has supporting Feathering nodes for the skill. - You’ll want to use this for one of the important Benedictions you can get early on in Chapter 4, the
Fa - Corruptive Feathers, which is key to the build. - Grab the remaining Endurance, Strength and Vitality nodes. The weapon has good scalings with them. You can get the Agility if you want to, since the longsword has Agi scalings too. But, it’s likely better to grab the Illusive tree nodes for Feathering and Temperance synergy at this point. Get the Agi later on.
If you run a One-Handed sword, especially the Zhanlu Sword, you will need at least 25 Agility to enable the scalings. So, this can affect where you place the attribute points. You may consider dipping into Spear for easier access to Agility, and focus on the Feathering Sword and Feathering points in the Illusive treeline.
Illusive Tree¶
In terms of stand out Illusive tree nodes, we recommend grabbing these:
Withering Touch: Increases corruption buildup from Spells.
Bone Needle - Feathering: Increases your Feathering bonuses while your weapon is tempered with this bone needle.
Fury of the Skyborn: While at 50% Madness, your Echo named spells cost 1 less Skyborn Might. - Handy for some of the extremely strong Feathering scaling spells you get from various bosses.
Bone Needle - Corruption: This bone needle boosts your weapon’s corruption buildup while activated.
Impact: While above 50% madness, you gain increased Feathering Attack Power.- Skyborn Calling: Three nodes spread around that increase your max stacks of Skyborn Might up to three times. (Caps at 5)
These are very strong and important parts of your build. With the Corruption and Feathering improvements you can get around 250 Feathering attack power bonus to your weapon, which is exceptionally strong. Furthermore, the Impact talent further amplifies that scaling, making it even better. Make sure to work our Madness at shrines, or us
Bo Blood on the illusive tree to get the Maddening Essence items working on your bar. Oh and one cheaper Skyborn Might spells makes some of the Echo spells even more cost efficient, on top of ridiculous scalings as is. Dont forget to upgrade your Manna Flask when you find the Forgotten Remembrances and Lost Remains.
Pendants for a Feathering Build¶
You’ll typically want to buff your spell and Feathering stats via the pendants. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
Pendants are another must have for the build to work. Thankfully, there’s a few that flatter this playstyle. The following examples are ones to look for for your preferred style of play
| Name | Effect | Location |
|---|---|---|
| 15% Feathering damage | ||
| +20% Spell Potency | Chapter 4 - Palace: From the Vegetable Garden shrine, exit the main entrance of the Palace, go down the steps, and exit the palace entrance. From there, follow the path down, till you reach the red pools. Look for a statue with a guard and an aura around it. Loot the item near that statue. | |
| +20% weapon skill damage | Help Honglang in Chapter 2 | |
| +40% Feathering damage - 20% Physical Damage | Sold by Tao Qing after handing in the item by defeating the |
At a minimum, we recommend the
Sun Pendant and the
Crimson Pendant. You’ll see a lot of use out of these because 20% Feathering damage is huge for your build. The extra 20% spell damage is also very important, as spell related to spells, regardless of damage type. Since you’re using Feathering only spells fairly often for huge burst or Corruption build-up, this directly buffs those spells when required.
As for the third option, you can go
- Coiled Dragon for a stronger Discipline skill.
Kylin Pendant lowers your physical but hugely buffs your Feathering.
- It’s very good during Temperance windows for the longsword, and the insanely strong scalings on the Zhunlu sword.
Benedictions for a Feathering Build¶
Benedictions in a Feathering build in Wuchang Fallen Feather should aim to buff corruption and Feathering where possible. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
Benedictions are one of the most important parts of getting this playstyle enabled. Realistically, you will need a significant number of Feathering attribute nodes. That’s because the Feathering Attack Power will scale to match the base attribute scaling of most Physical attacks on the Serpent Fang and Plumed Grace. They then supersede with the Temperance buffs you apply to your weapon. So, what you need to make sure your actual attacks against the boss are effective are the following
| Benediction | Type | Description | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oath | If a nearby enemy suffers Corruption, your weapon gains increased Feathering Attack Power for a time. | Open the chisel door in the Palace’s |
|
| Ta- Swift Corruption | Memory | Increases your Weapon’s Corruption buildup | Go to the top floor of the |
In terms of the Wisdom slot, you have a few options:
Wei - Skyborn Magic. This helps your spell damage when you gain Skyborn might.
Wei - Skyborn Force - flat damage increase during Skyborn Might
Wei - Skyborn Discipline - Increases your Discipline skill damage for a time after gaining Skyborne Might.
Ta - Viral Corruption - Inflicting Corruption increases the potency of Corruption.
The Wisdom option largely depends on your personal preference or strategy. Are some bosses better at spamming spells? Go for Skyborn Magic. If you prefer to use your Discipline Skill, consider Skyborn Discipline. Maybe you like the Corruption part of the build? Try the Viral Corruption option instead.
Spells for a Feathering Build¶
The good thing about Feathering focus attributes is you get a lot of spell synergy. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
In terms of spells, Feathering has a few very strong scaling options. In terms of the strongest spells, you have the following:
| Spell | Scaling Might | cost | Description | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crimson Edge incantation | 1.82 | 1 | Throws a Feathering blade at a target, dealing Feathering damage and restoring health on hit. | Looted from the lower level of |
| 1.7 scaling | 3 | Summons a Feathering spear to stab upwards, hitting for 270 base damage (one of the highest base damage spells in the game) | Get it from the Bei Mansion area, an optional area at the end of Chapter 3 by boarding a boat from Overlook Ferry. | |
| 3 | 1.33 | Conjures spiritual flames that burn the ground and explode, causing Feathering damage and building 30 Corruption | Defeat one of the optional bosses in early Chapter 4 |
These spells above are some of the strongest mid-to-late game spells in the entire game. They can be your main damage spells that work alongside your Feathering. We strongly recommend at least running
Crimson Edge Incantation, as it’s extremely cheap, and heals you, which can be very useful.
We also recommend the Feathering Alacrity spell, and another one that builds Corruption. Some good choices here are as follows:
- Echo of Soulwood, a Chapter 1 spell which generates 70 Corruption.
- Echo of Huang Ying is also a good option for gaining Alacrity, and generating Corruption on a target, and you get it from a main boss in Chapter 2.
Again, these are Echo spells, which will cost one less Skyborn Might. If you take Fury of the Skyborn talent in the illusive tree.
This should diversify your build enough for some strong spells, utility, and build complimenting Corruption and Alacrity. With that said, this concludes our Feathering Build in Wuchang Fallen Feather. Good luck getting all the pieces and stomping with this incredibly powerful NG+ focused build and end game build.
