Parry is a popular mechanic in Souls-like games. The ability to completely negate an attack and counter it with your own is a very powerful form of gameplay. Wuchang Fallen Feathers also has that move in the game, however, the mechanic is slightly different. Here’s everything you need to know about the Parry mechanic in Wuchang Fallen Feather.
It’s easy to bait Honglan into her Thrust Attack that can be easily deflected.
How to Parry / Deflect in Wuchang Fallen Feathers¶
For the most part, the game does not have the Parry mechanic as you’re traditionally used to it. Instead, the game has a Clash system, and a Deflecting system. Deflecting is the base mechanic most similar to the traditional parry. When using moves that have the Deflecting key term, you can time it to attack. This exists on the following Discipline skills you get from certain weapon Impetus Repository skills.
- Longsword -
Sword Counter - Dual Blades -
Steel Edge - Spear -
Spear Flurry
Using these skills at the right time will entirely deflect the attack. In the case of the Longsword Counter move, you get to Counterattack an enemy, essentially serving as the Parry system from other Souls-like games. We have a dedicated Deflect build for Longsword, which is a unique playstyle that you can use to ignore certain boss mechanics and defeat powerful enemies in a unique way.
In addition, players will get a quick tutorial when they first come up against the Honglan boss in Chapter 1.
How Clashing Works¶

Clashing is another mechanic that players can use to somewhat parry attacks. Clashing is a very strong way of somewhat engaging damage if your weapon times with an enemy’s weapon attack swings. However, there are different tiers of damage mitigation from clashing.
- Discipline Skills - Fully ignores damage received from clashing
- Heavy attack - Mitigates a large amount of damage or full damage depending on talents
- Light Attacks - Mitigates partial damage from successful clashes.
Clashes are some of the best ways to mitigate damage. Many bosses and enemies have very long attack chains in Wuchang. So, the game incentivizes you to try to clash where possible to trade blows with bosses. Some weapons are better at doing this than others, such as our Dual Blades Blademaster build.
You can see an example of the clash in motion via our video guide on the Dual Blades. Skip to 46 seconds for a great example of clashing in action.
You can find Clashing related talents via the Impetus Repository
