When it comes to important characters in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, there are few more important than Fang Yao. Although you won’t meet her until Chapter 2, she plays a direct role in two of the game’s endings along with the various rewards she hands out throughout. Keep reading to learn where you can find her each time and how to complete her quest.

First Meeting - Cloudspire City¶

Your first meeting with Fang Yao doesn’t happen until you finally reach Cloudspire City during Chapter 2 of the adventure, and even then, you won’t see her. As you head up the stairs upon entering the city for the first time, you’ll see an enemy banging on a door, dispatch it and then interact with it to meet with Fang Yao. She’ll mention about her father who protected her back in Hillswatch and to let her know if you hear anything about him.

At this point, use the nearby Shrine and head back to Hillswatch, ignore the ladder down into the cave, and go into the village itself. Follow the path until you reach an intersection that allows you to go up more stairs, or down some to your left, take the path to the left. Go behind the house and you’ll find a path that leads to where her father was buried (and a shortcut back towards the Shrine), use the Examine Pose and you’ll obtain the Shu Silk Scarf.

Second Meeting - Cloudspire City¶

Now that you have your hands on the Shu Silk Scarf, return to Cloudspire City and visit the same house again to hand it over. Audibly distraught, she’ll hand over three Sapphire Lotus Seeds and then mention a Ling, there’s no more you can do for her here.

Third Meeting - Shaft Entrance¶

After you defeat the boss at Treasure Trove, don’t go down the Shaft just yet, instead, head around the back and you’ll find the Bloodied Paper. Take the lift down now and you’ll run into Fang Yao again, in person for the first time. She’ll mention that her sister, Ling, can be found somewhere here and asks if you can find her. Agree, and she’ll give you a Medicinal Powder in return while teaching you the song the two of them used to sing.

Fourth Meeting - Wedding Hall¶

Once you defeat the boss at the bottom of the Shaft area, refresh the Shrine at the Wedding Hall and you’ll find a distraught Fang Yao, who hands over Fang Yao’s Hairband and Fang Yao’s Light Gown, before mentioning that she will move on.

Fifth Meeting - Refugee Camp¶

This is the start of Chapter 3, and Fang Yao will only appear here if you completed her steps in Chapter 2 first. As you leave Battlefield Site and head toward the Refugee Camp, you’ll spot both Fang Yao and He Youzai near a campfire. Speak with her and she’ll mentioned she met up with He Youzai at Hillswatch and has decided to look after him.

Sixth Meeting - Annalum¶

Once you enter Chapter 4 for the first time, you’ll find yourself at Annalum, where a lot of the characters have gathered. More importantly, you’ll find both Fang Yao and He Youzai here again, and after speaking to her, she’ll give you a Soulgrass to keep you safe as you head to town.

Seventh Meeting - Reverent Temple¶

Once you finally reach Reverent Temple in Chapter 4, you’ll find Fang Yao to the left of the Shrine, crying (there’s a young boy here in previous Chapters). Speak with her twice and she’ll hand over both the Research Journal - Scrap 3 and Ring of Samsara - Cause items before saying she’ll return to Annalum. These items are massively important for two of the game’s endings, the spoiler box below will give you more details on this:

Eighth Meeting - Annalum¶

True to her word, Fang Yao returns to Annalum after your meeting with her at Reverent Temple, look for the room with the lights on and you can interact with the door. Fang Yao, however, refuses to see you unless you’re with He Youzai.
