Where to find the Fang Yao and Complete Her Quest
Where to Find the Plain Warrioress and Complete Her Quest
Qiao Ying is one of the major long term NPCs players can work with throughout Wuchang Fallen Feathers. She is first discoverable in the
Shu Sanctum, and has a very long quest chain that takes place through the vast majority of chapters. As a result, this NPC is very easy to break, especially when the NPC relates to both the Qiao Lin and Nian Suichang NPCs too. Here’s what we have managed to deduce so far with the storyline and choices for our Qiao Ying quest guide in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.
Note this guide is still a work in progress because we need to test some edge cases with the NPC. Though, we’ve got the bulk of the pivots sorted for now.
Qiao Ying Chapter 1¶
You first meet Qiao Ying after speaking to Lin in Reverent Temple. Hand over the item he gave you to this lady here. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
At the start of the game, an NPC called Qiao Lin in
Reverent Temple will give you an item called the
Peachwood Amulet. Take this to the Shu Sanctum.
- To get to Shu Sanctum, you need to progress the main pathway with all the tutorial bits, make your way through
Lightzen Temple, and then cross the pathway towards the big tower in the following village area. - Qiao Ying is located in the Shu Sanctum. Go up the stairs from the Shrine and you can find her on that floor.
- Hand over the Peachwood Amulet to her. She then gives you a
Divine Gift and a task to find a
White Jade Dumpling. - To get the White Jade Dumpling, you need to defeat the Gluttonous Monstrosity, an optional boss located at the top of the village surrounding Shu Sanctum. You can get a shortcut to the tower from the cliffside when you reach the top, before ascending to the boss room.
- Defeating the boss gives you the White Jade Dumpling and the
Trinity Bell for Huang Jian’e. - Return to The Shu Sanctum and speak to the NPCs in question.
Qiao Ying Choice: Found It or Discard it?¶
When you get the item from the Gluttonous Monstrosity, you can tell her you found it or discarded it. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
When you return to Qiao Ying with the White Jade Bunny, you can give her the bunny or discard it. She claims it has properties that allow you to live longer. You can either give it to her or not.
Regardless of the option you chose, she always seems to give you the same reward:
However, the dialogue changes, and so does the remainder of the quest chain.
Discard
If you discard the item, she mentions she’ll go to the forest and not be a bother anymore. We next spotted her in Chapter 3 at
Refugee Camp.
You got it for her
If you give her the White Jade Dumpling, then she appears in Chapter 2 at the
Snowy Passage area. You’ll notice this based on if you find Qiao Ling next to the
Hillswatch shrine or not at the start of Chapter 2. See the image difference for contrast of the options.
If you didn’t Discard it, you can see her across the bridge leading to the Hillswatch Shrine. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
If you discarded it, then she appears in Chapter3, and not next to the Hillswatch shrine as you first load into the area. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
Chapter 2 Meetings¶
In Chapter 2, you can find her right at the start of the chapter. She loads in next to the Hillswatch shrine if you give her the White Jade Bunny in Shu Sanctum.
When you approach her, you can give her the Bunny again, as she is asking for food. She will gladly eat it this time. She then mentions she has a son around here who is a general.
To next find her you need to:
- Follow the pathway to the Snowy Passage shrine and then take the left pathway and enter the village.
- Work your way up the ruined entrance of the village after opening the door and walk up the sloped pathway on the left side where the rebels are fighting the monsters.
- At the top of the hill, turn right where the trip wire mines are. You should come across a house you can open the front door to. She is upstairs in that building.
- She will want you to relay a message to the general in the main army camp. Accept it.
- You can defeat the
Rebel Camp boss and return to her with another White Jade Dumpling. She will then remember that she is looking for her son.
However, due to story related concerns, we know what happens to Qiao Lin. We’ve spoiler boxed it if you’re interested in reading more.
When you give the
Mercurial Blood to Nian Suichang in Reverent Temple, he uses it as medicine to heal his brother. In Chapter 4, you find Nian coddling his brother’s corpse at the top of a hill in a shrine. Because of the course of the quest, Qiao Ying doesn’t ever seem to find her son, and so, doesn’t seem to appear any further in the questline. Her quest is essentially dead from here based on our testing.
There’s potnetial if you don’t give Nian the blood this quest may lead somewhere, but you’ll instead brick Nian’s storyline instead. So, it’s worth figuring out if you his armor set and extremely strong feathering build one handed sword.
Chapter 3 Qiao Ying¶
If you chose the option to Discard the White Jade Bunny, then she will next appear in Chapter 3.
- Make your way through the Battlefield Site from the cave near Hillswatch, and progress through. You will emerge in the mountain area.
- From here, you need to go through the gap in the wall and go through the little town.
- Enter the hovel area via the second entrance to the right, and then go through the pathway in the middle of the corruption pool cave.
- From here, follow the pathway down, turn right, and then descend the ladders towards the Refugee camp.
- You’ll come across a little tent and campfire area, where you can find the White Robe Elder.
- To the right is the bridge that leads towards Refugee Camp.
- When you cross the bridge you can find Qiao Ying and speak to her.
When you speak to her, she tells you about becoming a monster hunter, and you are set for life and gives you some fruit. You can then go into the Avian Forest, kill the big bird creature (
Feathered Descendant - Duyu) in the level below, then return to her. After that, you get a choice to tell her to go look for more fruit. You can either encourage her or say there’s no need to. It doesn’t look like it does anything, however.
Meeting Qiao Ying at the Refugee Camp gives you what appears to a fake choice about her collecting fruit. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
Defeating the Bo Sorcerer seems to break the quest. So keep this in mind this could be the final time you speak to her. Image via Gamer Guides / 505 Games.
Interestingly, the next major story progression trigger we encountered was after killing the
Bo Sorcerer. This is an optional boss at the end of the Avian sector. If you kill the Bo Sorcerer and return to her, she seems to be very upset with you. Gives you the last of her fruit and is never seen again.
There’s potential that if you don’t kill the Bo Sorcerer, there’s more to her storyline. We’ll need another playthrough to be able to test it. If you want to, then make sure you’re not looking to get the White Robed Elder storyline and alternate ending achievement from it, as they can potentially break.
