As you progress through Grounded 2, you’ll begin to need Pine Needles. These are used in many crafts, including the powerful Glacial Sting stave. However, these can be difficult to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Read on to find out how to get Pine Needles and what crafts you need them for.

Acid Glands are used in some important crafts such as the Cookery. Defeat Red Soldier Ants or Larva to obtain them.

Best Acid Gland Locations¶

Acid Glands are obtained by defeating Red Soldier Ants and Larva. The former are hostile creatures who will attack you on sight, unlike their brethren, the Red Ants. However, if you fight a Red Soldier Ant around Red Ants, the Red Ants will join in with the Red Soldier Ant, so always be careful when attacking one. Larva are also hostile creatures, who sometimes spend their time underground. When you see the ground moving, it’ll either be a Larva or a Grub. Let’s take a look at where you can find them.

Red Soldier Ant Location¶

For the most part, the best place to find Red Soldier Ants is naturally in Anthills. To be more specific, the Hatchery Anthill is a fantastic place to find them. You’ll find the Hatchery near the eastern border of the Snackbar Front quadrant of the map. If you head east from the center of the Snackbar (just below the deck) you’ll eventually come across the entrance to the Hatchery.

Make your way through the tunnels, and you’ll encounter plenty of Red Soldier Ants along the way. Note that you need to come here for the Hatchery story quest anyway. Another great place to find them is in the Statue quadrant of the map in the far east; however, these are the stronger O.R.C. variants. Finally, you can find them scattered around the map as they move from place to place.

Be careful when you take a fight with a Red Soldier Ant, as the nearby Ants will join in.

Larva Location¶

The best location to find Larva is the Grass Games/Statue segment of the map in the far east. Unfortunately, this is more of a late-game area, at least for Early Access. Fortunately, there are other spots around the map where you can find them. A particular favorite of ours is around the Picnic Table located to the northeast of the Snackbar. Here, you’ll find plenty above and underground. For the ones underground, use your Omni-Shovel to pluck them out. You’ll either get a Larva or a Grub.

Acid Gland Unlocks¶

Once you’ve obtained one Acid Gland, head to the nearest Ranger Outpost and analyze it to unlock the items listed in the table below.

That’s it for Acid Glands. Your best bet in obtaining them is to farm them from the Red Soldier Ants. Although they drop from Larva, the drop rate appears to be lower. That, and Red Soldier Ants are easier to find.
