Where The Heart Is Walkthrough
Performance of a Lifetime
Man’s Best Friend is yet another one of the Good Deeds players can perform in Hell is Us. This new is slightly sneaky, as the mystery only really starts when you’re in Act 2. Man’s Best Friend Walkthrough¶
To start this Good Deed, you need to do the following first:
- Go to Vyssa Hills and find the refugee camp. You’ll find an elderly couple there who mention leaving a dog behind. They hope its free to find a new owner.
- Complete the Lake Cynon and Lymbic Forge area are to unlock Act 2.
- When you complete Chapter 1 and unlock the new areas, go to Acasa Marshes for the Abbey mission relating to the Ecstacy key.
Now, with the map state updated for the Act 2 campaign, you can now actually start this Good Deed.
- When you’re there, head into Jova and find the dog tied up at th House in the center of the village. The Sabinians leave the town at this point, including the lady that took ownership of the dog.
- Free the dog. You will get the Dog Collar item.
Now you have two things you can do. One is complete the Abbey part of the main story, and find the Abbot Jaffer inside the caves of the Abbey. Or you can go straight to the elderly refugees in Vyssa to complete the Good Deed. If you want the good ending, then we advise completing the Abbot Jaffer stuff first. The other ending isn’t bad per say, rather it is simple a more neutral one, as nothing bad happens.
(1 of 3) In Act 2, go to Jova and you can now free the dog as there is no Sabinian around overlooking Max the dog. Image via Gamer Guides / Nacon.
- Complete Jaffer’s task in the Abbey’s cave system
- You’ll find a Timeloop and what happened to the Captain when he left Jova.
- You’ll get a lead that takes you to the National Library looking for book.
- With the National Library lead acquired, the next map state refresh will have Jaffer and Rebbecca (his niece in the house attic) leave Jova.
- You will now be able to find them, and the dog you freed at Lake Cynon, at the Apiary house near the Reservoir puzzle.
- Now go to Vyssa and speak the the elderly couple at the refugee camp, up the hill from where the Timeloop is in the Tier 1 area, near the gravestone.
- Speaking to the old man completes the Deed.
Now you simply need to take a short walk to Watcher’s Nest to get the reward.
Man’s Best Friend Rewards¶

You can now return to the Vigil Elder, and get a reward. This is a very good reward actually as you get the Glyph - Eager Embrace. This glyph gives players an Ecstasy Glyph, which enables you to perform a 20 meter teleport attack that stuns a target. It is one of the best glyphs in the game, as it can stun enemies, even preventing those enemies from spawning their Lymbic cord threat, allowing you to cheese some enemies very easily. We strongly recommend running this to make some of the tougher Tier 2 and 3 enemies much easier to fight.
With that said, that’s the end of the Man’s Best Friend Good Deed in Hell is Us, you now know how to complete, and even get the cute good ending too for the dog. Let’s admit it - you didn’t want to free the dog because you were scarred it would be alone!
