Glyphs are one of the features in Hell Is Us that let players equip powers on their weapons. In the early game, you’ll start collecting a few of them as you progress through the game. However, its not quite clear how you use them. Thankfully, it’s not as complicated as you might initially think. Here’s how to equip glyphs in Hell is Us.
Equipping Glyphs¶
To equip Glyphs, you simply need to do two things.
- Unlock the Smithy feature.
- Upgrade a Weapon to Grade 2.
To unlock the smithing feature, you must first go to the Acasa Marshes, which unlock after the quick tutorial mission in Senedra Forest.

After that, go to Acasa Marshes in the APC, and stick to the East side of the map when you can. Travel to the very northeastern area of the map, and you should come across a red tunnel . Enter the red tunnel and take care of the enemies clumped up inside. When inside, speak to the man called Victor who is barricaded inside the door of the maintenance tunnel. Speak to him and he will mention some main story progression for you to do.
If you go to Vitalis’ basement, it should trigger Victor reopening the Smithy. You should be able to head outside and talk to him about Vitalis and other smithy related needs.

Now, with the smithy unlocked, you need to upgrade a weapon to Grade 2. This will cost a few Lymbic Shards, which you will have enough of. Select any of the options from Rage, Grief, Terror and Ecstasy, as that will turn your weapon into one of those, changing its appearance and allowing you to equip the matching emotional glyphs. Neutral Glyphs can be equipped on any Grade 2 weapon, regardless of emotion type. You won’t be able to equip a Rage glyph on a Terror weapon, for example.
Once you have made your choice and upgraded, open you terminal and then click on your weapon tab. Press the button to open the glyphs menu for that weapon. You can now slot in an appropriate glyph or neutral glyph into the weapon.
Thankfully, you do get multiple base weapons as you play through the game. Some weapons in the later stages of the game even come with higher grade and emotions already attached to them. Such as the Greatsword of Rage in Lake Cynon. So, you can always try other weapons and glyph combos out as you progress through the game..
