Chaos Forest Puzzle Guide

Your reward for reaching the top of the Spire of Insight is access to a portal that’ll take you to the Chaos Forest section of the Abyss. That’s right - after solving the Spire of Insight’s puzzles, you get another puzzle. This page will provide a guide for completing the Chaos Forest puzzle in the Abyss in Crimson Desert.

Page Breakdown

(1 of 3) Use your blade to set the vines on fire by reflecting sunlight,

Power Up the First Socket

After passing through the Abyss Gate connecting the Spire of Insight to the Chaos Forest part of the Abyss, head up some stairs ahead of you and use “Nature’s Grasp” to lift the wall head, beyond which lies the puzzle you need to solve.

Ahead of you you’ll spot some vines, while to the right are two sockets with wires connected to them. These sockets will, when they have a power panel installed, provide power to two wheels on the wall, which you need to do to progress the puzzle. One power panel is already socketed, but another one is needed. First draw your sword and focus light onto some thorny vines to clear the area - ahead and just to the left you’ll find a pool of water, which doesn’t appear to have any immediate use.

(1 of 4) Make your way onto a burning, floating platform,

Return to the sockets and look down over the ledge to the southwest to spot a floating section of ruins with something burning on it. Jump down onto this platform and use your “Axiom Force” ability to grab a burning rectangle - one of the power panels you need. Move this power panel to the upper ledges near the sockets, then climb back up after it.

You can’t use the power panel while it’s burning, so when you and it are near the sockets, grab it with Axiom Force again and dip it into the pool of water you cleared. Once doused, drag the power panel to the open socket and position it over said socket. This still isn’t sufficient to get the power panel connected to the socket, however, so stand on the socket, jump, and press DualSense-R3 to use “Force Palm”. This application of muscle will hopefully knock the power panel into the socket, although it can be fussy - reposition it with Axiom Force and use Force Palm again until the power panel is in the socket - you’ll know you’re done when both wheels on the far wall are blue and spinning!

One socket down, one to go.

(1 of 3) Climb a root to reach another section of ruins,

Power Up the Second Socket

Drop back down onto the flaming platform and this time note a large root running up to another section of the ruins. Jump on this root and follow it up, get on the ruins, head up some stairs, then turn left the first chance you get to enter a tunnel. Use your sword to ignite some vines both to your side and across a gap ahead of you and once those have burned away, note to your right two square panels flanking a circular gear-shaped device. Your goal is to provide power to both these square panels, and hence to the gear-device. You should have one of the panels active, while the second, across the gap ahead, remains dormant.

Jump the gap ahead and use “Nature’s Force” to lift another wall up, revealing a smallish chamber where another power panel floats right in plain sight. There’s also a socket on the wall; this part isn’t tricky, do exactly what you think you should - use Axiom Force to put the power panel on the socket, then jump onto said power panel and hit it with Force Palm to install it into the socket.

Once the socket is powered up, grab some Abyss Fragments, take them back to the wall and lift it again,

then quickly place the Abyss Fragments under the wall to prevent it from lowering.

Now for the tricky part. Getting power running through the socket again isn’t enough to keep the square panel outside powered. You need to keep the wall you raised with Nature’s Force lifted so the power can’t be cut off. To do this, pick up the “Abyss Fragment” blocks on the floor and take them to the wall you raised. What you need to do is raise the wall again and before it can lower, pick up the Abyss Fragments and put them under the path of the wall. If done correctly, when the wall tries to close again, the Abyss Fragments will keep it propped up. The physics are kind of wonky here, however, so this may take a try or two to get right.

Once both sockets are powered up, the square panels flanking the gear will be glowing.

Climb onto the gear and hit it with Axiom Force to complete this Abyss puzzle.

Restore the Chaos Forest Abyss

Now that both square panels are providing uninterrupted power to the gear, you’re just about done with this puzzle! Jump onto the gear between the two square panels and hold L2 to “Resist”, then hit the gear with Force Palm. If you don’t resist before using Force Palm, you’ll be flung backwards into the pit below, which could send you careening back to Pywel, which would be a moderate nuisance.

Assuming you did this correctly, the gear will turn and a device above will light up, granting you an Abyss Artifact. An awful lot of work for one of these, but, hey, at least it’s done now!
