Duskwood Waterside Ruins Location¶
You’ll find the ruins where this Abyss Cresset is located out in the wilderness west of Hernand. Just head straight west from the city, cross the river and look for the Kilnden Workshop location - it’s a convenient landmark en route to your destination and there’s also an Abyss Nexus nearby. The Duskwood Waterside Ruins are just to the west of this location.

Duskwood Waterside Ruins Puzzle Solution¶
When you arrive you’ll find that the puzzle in the midst of these ruins consists of a grid of raised stone fighting a losing battle against the foliage around it. Most importantly, note the black and white stone rocks located at just about every intersection of these stone lines. These stones are the key to solving this puzzle, but are also red herrings inasmuch as they’re only important that they stay unmolested - do not move them out of place, either by attacking them, walking into them or actively picking them up. The stones on the grid are all already where they need to be in order to solve the puzzle, and moving them will only further hinder your efforts.
Instead, you need to be on the lookout for shrubs that may be placed randomly on grid intersections instead of stones. We’ve seen anywhere from 0-3 of these shrubs, which are actually crabs with greenery growing on their shells. These may or may not also be red herrings, as one of these crabs can spawn where you need to move a stone… but it’s not guaranteed to be there.
Assuming you approached from the east (by heading west from Hernand) you’ll spot some stone pillars along the distant corner of this grid puzzle. This is where the Abyss Cresset itself is located, and on the ground nearby is a White Stone, which you’ll need to place on the grid in a specific spot. Go face the cresset, then turn around and on the grid row nearest the cresset you’ll find a white stone. On the next row over you should see three stones, white-black-white, from left to right. Finally on the third row you should see black-white-black stone followed either by a blank spot or a crab. If there’s a crab there, go kill it (shooting it with a bow will suffice), pick up the white rock near the cresset (not the one on the grid, a white rock in the grass near the cresset itself) and place it on the third row of the grid so the stones are lined up black-white-black-white. Check the provided images for more information about where to place this white stone!
If done correctly, you’ll get a scene where the Abyss Cresset unlocks - go loot it to score an Abyss Artifact. Again, a super simple puzzle - you just need to put the white stone near the cresset in the right spot on the grid. That’s it. The other rocks, the crabs, they’re all just distractions, at best.
