Capturing Bounties Alive

Ne’er-do-wells don’t limit themselves to skulking alongside roads, festering in forest camps and dwelling in mountain strongholds - a particularly audacious sort also dwells among honest, civilized folk, committing all sorts of crimes while benefitting from the safety of the communities they parasitize. The powers-that-be seem chronically incapable of (or unwilling to) root out the aforementioned banditry that envelopes the countryside, but these criminals closer to home do warrant a response… inasmuch as they’re willing to pay you to deal with these vagabonds. This page will cover how bounties work and how to apprehend bounty targets without killing them in Crimson Desert.

Page Breakdown

Pick up bounty notices when you see them and read them to get an idea of who you’re looking for.

As an unexpected mercy, info on the bounty will be posted on the map.

Starting Bounties

Complete quests in and around Hernand and eventually you’ll start seeing bounties being posted around - these are marked by purple icons on the minimap and can be found on posts throughout the world. Just grab bounty notices when you spot them and examine them by holding DualSense-L1 to get details of the target, which typically includes their name, bounty price, race, age, gender and other useful information regarding their crimes and any applicable quirks. While a nice touch from a lore perspective, this information isn’t always that useful, as in a rare change of pace the game goes out of its way to mark the location of these bounty targets on your map for you, meaning much of the work in finding them involves simplifying traveling to where they lurk!

(1 of 4) Head to where the bounty is located and wait for them to flee - once they’ve outed themselves, give chase,

Capturing Bounty Targets Alive

Once you’re read the bounty notice, find the marker for it on the map and travel there. Most bounties are simple affairs - walk around looking for someone that vaguely resembles the target and if you get close enough there’s a good chance your mark will flee. That, more than any other clue, is how you should identify your target, with the rest of the details on the bounty notice just giving you a clue of roughly what to look for.

When your mark flees, chase after them and wait for the the prompt to tackle them to appear - this will be the DualSense-ButtonCross / Xbox-ButtonA button, depending on platform. Once you’ve tackled them, you’ll need to listen to their excuses, and respond by punching them in the face until you get the option to tie them up. Keep in mind that some marks may be in the presence of other hostiles, in which case you’ll need to dispatch them before you tackle and subdue your target, but in many cases, it’ll just be you and your target.

After tying the mark up, call your horse, stash the unfortunate criminal on the back of your mount and get ready for the worst part of most bounty hunts: hauling your captive back to the Guard Station. In the case of Hernand, this will be just outside the town walls along the western edge of the city. You can’t fast travel, so bounties that were hidden far from civilization could require minutes of riding to get back, during which you’ll be seranaded by excuses from your humanoid cargo. Endure and when you arrive pull your prey from the back of your horse and walk up to the guards to claim your bounty. You will get only half the price if you killed your mark instead of tackling, beating and tying them up. You will also get a hefty boost to Contribution, making bounties a good early-game activity for building your wealth and reputation!
