Crimson Desert

How to Get More Inventory Space

One of the bigger and more enduring bothers you’ll have to put up with while playing Crimson Desert is inventory management. Like in many RPGs, you inventory space is limited - you don’t have to play inventory Tetris or manage weight numbers, but you’ve still only got so many slots for gear, and in a world where you can pick up numerous varieties of bugs, plants, fish, food, mineral, and where every second NPC is shoving some note or another in your hand, it fills up quickly. This page will explain how inventory space works in Crimson Desert and how to expand your capacity.

Page Breakdown

You have quite a few inventory slots, but there’s a lot of gear you’ll need…

especially when NPCs are handing you junk nearly every quest!

Inventory Slots

When you pick an item up, it goes into your inventory and takes up a precious inventory slot. Pretty simple stuff, but again, there are a ton of items in Crimson Desert, including an array of tools you need to mine, chop down trees and fish, weapons, armor, a library of various notes and books, crafting supplies and food… and that’s before you even consider staples like weapons and armor! Even money, keys and leveling materials take up inventory space! Fortunately some items stack, but the game is full of inconsistencies and oddities - ammo, food and materials all stack, but every butterfly you capture will take up as much space as a suit of platemail.

In any event, you’ll begin the game with 50 inventory slots, which will keep you going for a while, but a few quests and a bit of exploration later and you’ll find yourself scrambling for more space. There’s no stash or storage in the game (at last, not yet - it’ll almost certainly get patched in at some point) so excess loot will have to be sold off - keeping a wide variety of bugs as alchemical fodder is, at this point in time, something of a pipe dream.

To increase your inventory capacity, buy Small Bags from vendors,

or complete side quests to obtain Medium Bags, which will unlock three new inventory slots.

Increasing Inventory Capacity: Quests and Shopping

Fortunately there are ways you can improve your inventory capacity: acquire bags! There are two regular sources of bags in Crimson Desert, you can complete side quests (in-game they’re called “Commissions” and can be found at Journal/Faction Quests in the menu) to acquire Medium Bags which will grant you 3x inventory slots each or you can simply buy Small Bags from merchants to get 1x inventory slot.

Completing side quests that yield Medium Bags should be a priority, especially early on. You’re going to need those inventory slots and these quests tend to serve dual roles as a tutorial of sorts - mining ore, felling trees for lumber, cooking food, etc. More of these quests will unlock as you advance the story and travel to new regions, so be sure to check out your local notice board for potential relief from the constant threat of overencumbrance!

In addition, just about every merchant in the game will sell a single Small Bag for 50 copper which will, when purchased, permanently grant you an inventory slot. These do not restock, but again, almost every merchant has one, from the innkeeper, to the butcher to the tanner… even that shady little goblin behind the mill. A few “Street Shop” merchants may share an inventory and hence buying from one may remove the stock from others, but you’ll generally be well-served by checking every merchant you find, just in case.

Storage Chests

As mentioned above, at the time of writing, there is no way to store your items in Crimson Desert. We have, however, been assured by the developers that this is coming in a post-launch patch, allowing you to use specific furnishings in your house to store some of your hard-earned loot.

All in all, inventory management will always be something you have to wrangle with. Getting bags from quests and merchants will help, but the further you play into the game, the more key items you’ll end up having to haul around. Until a stash is added to the game, you’re just going to have to accept you can’t carry everything and sell whatever is extraneous!
