The Precipice of Echoes Ruins can be found far to the southwest of Hernand, past the river from Fort Perwin.
Precipice of Echoes Ruins Location¶
To reach the Precipice of Echoes Ruins you’ll need to head a fair ways southwest from the city of Hernand to find “The Witchwoods” on your map. From the Abyss Nexus just north of the text on your map head south, passing by Perwin Quarry and Perwin Gate to finally reach Fort Perwin, which is near a river. Cross the river and you’ll find the ruins housing this Abyss Cresset south, southeast of Fort Perwin.
For the first puzzle, just head up four tiles from one symbol to the next. No jumping or backtracking allowed!
Precipice of Echoes Ruins Puzzle Solution¶
Inside the Precipice of Echoes Ruins you’ll find a 7x7 grid of tiles, and if you’re a dummy like yours truly, it may not be immediately obvious what you’re supposed to do. In the center of the row nearest the entrance to the ruins you’ll find a symbol on the floor, and what you need to do is step on this symbol, then make your way to the other, matching symbol near the middle of the tile grid. Once you create a path of depressed tiles from one symbol to another, you’ll get a birds-eye view of the puzzle as the tiles change and the second part of the puzzle begins… but before we get to the second puzzle’s solution, there are some things to keep in mind.
If you step on a depressed tile, the puzzle will reset, forcing you to leave the grid and start all over from the first puzzle again. So no retracing your steps. You also cannot jump at all - if your feet leave the grid, the puzzle will reset. This also includes climbing off the puzzle onto the ruins to the side, which can happen accidentally, so you’ll need to be careful as you trot around. Basically no backtracking, and no leaving the grid once you’re on it. Now that we’ve gone over the rules, let’s solve the second puzzle, which is more complex than the first one (it would almost have to be, really…)
The solution to the second puzzle.
Second Puzzle Solution¶
The second puzzle will start where the last one ended, one tile away from the center of the grid, and this time there are three pairs of symbols you’ll need to tread on. Using the image above as a reference, here are the steps you’ll need to take to complete the puzzle:
- From the tile you start on, head right four tiles (back to where you started the first puzzle). This completes the first rune pair.
- Go north one tile to step on a tile with the first rune in the second rune pair on it.
- Go left five tiles.
- Go south two tiles. You should be moving around the tile you started this puzzle on.
- Go right five tiles.
- Go down one tile to complete the second rune pair.
- Go left six tiles. Along the way you’ll pass over the first rune in the third rune pair.
- Go up five tiles to reach the corner of the grid.
- Go right two tiles to complete the third rune pair.
This will complete the second puzzle and start the third and final puzzle.
The solution to the third puzzle.
Once you solve all three puzzles, loot the Abyss Cresset to obtain an Abyss Artifact.
Third Puzzle Solution¶
Same rules as before, but this puzzle is more complicated than the other two! There are five rune pairs you need to reach without backtracking, and again, we’ll use the image provided above as a reference for our directions:
- From the tile you start on, head left two tiles.
- Go up one tile. This completes the first rune pair.
- Go left one tile. You will reach the first rune in the second rune pair.
- Go up one tile.
- Go right three tiles.
- Go up two tiles. You are passing around a rune in the middle of the grid.
- Go left three tiles. This completes the second rune pair.
- Go up one tile. You will reach the first rune in the third rune pair.
- Go right four tiles.
- Go down five tiles.
- Go right one tile to reach the corner of the grid. This complete the third rune pair.
- Go up six tiles. You will pass over the first rune in the fourth rune pair as you go.
- Go left six tiles - you’ll be crossing from one corner of the grid to another.
- Go down three tiles. You will complete the fourth run pair and stop on the first rune in the fifth rune pair during this phase.
- Go right three tiles to reach the center of the grid. You will complete the fifth rune pair.
Whew! Now that the third puzzle is solved you’ll be able to loot the Abyss Cresset on the far end of the rules, obtaining an Abyss Artifact.
