The Chain Reaction side quest is one of the side missions in Dying Light: The Beast. One of the things with the mission is that it has some decent choices relating to a character called Lucy. While the developers have said there’s only one main ending, and choices don’t matter like Dying Light 2, there are some actual differences to note with the Chain Reaction choices relating to Lucy. Here’s a full walkthrough so you know what you’re looking for.

Chain Reaction Walkthrough

You need to make your way to the log cabin area of the national Fores and turn off the red gas cylinders to save Lucy. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.

To start, you’re sent to a campsite in the National Park. You need to turn off the gas canisters in the trailer park. If you have the Spas Decoy blueprint from the Good Vibrations side quest from Old Town after the Power Gambit mission, then you can make this easier.

Throw the Spas Decoy, and it will pull the attention of the creatures and the Virals too. This should help turn the gas canisters off, and not have to deal with reinforcements.
When they are all off, dispatch with a few molotovs on to the Spas Decoy or Firecracker, and deal with the goon with your preferred method of beat-em-up or gadgets.

With all the creatures dead, you can now head to the main cabin door and rescue Lucy inside. Feel free to exhaust the dialogue with her to learn more about her role with the baron for some world building reasons, which may come to play later on.

The Baron’s Cache

Now that you’ve rescued Lucy, you need to get some fuel and food for Lucy so she can escape the Baron’s men. She sends you to a resource cache controlled by the baron.

The building has about 6 guards, with two of them having guns and the rest a combination of burier or one-handed melee weapons. You can easily kill these with some well-placed headshots with a bow and arrow, crossbow, or even ranged weapons. The melee dudes are a bit tougher to kill, so stealth ranged attacks or takedowns are the play.

Once the enemies are dead, you can find the food rations box inside the pantry area of the house. Meanwhile the fuel is by the shed. Feel free to loot the place before bringing the food and fuel to the truck in the middle of the cache.

Where is Lucy?

Drive to the location and beat the timer doing so. Enter the building, then open the door on the left as seen in this image. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.

When you’re ready to leave, get in the car, and you will contact Selby. Selby will then be a bit suspicious and tell you not to meet Lucy at the house.

Drive to the house as soon as you get into the car to skip some of the time. It will take you to the flooded part of the village and towards the quest objective.

When you get to the house, squeeze through the front door and open the door on the left to find Selby confronting Lucy.

Lucy Choices

There are two major Lucy choices in the Chain Reaction quest ending. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.

After backing up our save, we found there are very slight differences with Lucy choices with the Chain Reaction.

Let’s start with the “bad ending.” The bad ending choices are as follows. Select:

  1. Is that true? - Lucy will admit she lied to you if you asked her if she recognized you back at the cabin.
  2. I’ll leave you two alone
As you close the door, Selby will kill Lucy, and the quest will complete. You will get 10,000 XP and two expert field manual pages for your legendary blueprint upgrades.

As for the “good ending”, you need to select:

  1. Not important now.
  2. Can’t let you do this, Selby

This will instead let Lucy go, and she will get the car and drive off. You will then complete the quest, get the two Expert field Manuals and 10,000 XP too.

In terms of rewards, both end exactly the same way. Both endings will have Selby slump into the chair and be miserable. You will also not see her in the Exiles Cave either after completing the quest. She will sulk in that room, regardless of what option happened. The only major difference is if Lucy is dead in that room or not.

It’s mainly for some character building, as it gives you some flavor of what the other infected who were experimented on experienced under the Baron’s watch. They too want vengeance for what happened to them.
