Dying Light: The Beast

How to Throw Weapons

One of the features of Dying Light’s combat is weapon throwing. Outside of the few opportunity weapons which you can throw in combat, some weapons have bonus perks to thrown weapon damage. Naturally, it begs the question how you actually throw weapons in Dying Light: The Beast. Thankfully it’s really easy, but the game’s tutorial doesn’t do a good job of showing you that.

Here’s how to throw weapons in Dying Light The Beast. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.

How to throw weapons

To throw a weapon, you simply need to charge an attack and then use your block button.

  • On PC, press and hold the left click, then press F to throw - MouseLeftButton F-Key
  • Xbox Controllers, it is RT and X - Xbox-TriggerRight-Filled Xbox-ButtonX
  • PlayStation contrllers it is R2 and Square - DualSense-R2-FilledDualSense-ButtonSquare

This should now charge a weapon swing, then the other button sends it to a thrown weapons stance, rather than unleashing a charged swing.

You can do this pretty much with all melee weapons. However, I’d only really do it if the weapon you have acquired comes with the weapon throwing perk as that will greatly increase the damage you deal from it.

As for timing, well, you should only really throw when you have some distance between you and some enemies, and don’t want to use your guns or bow and arrows on a foe. We also recommend only doing it if you can actually retrieve your weapons. The game is good at despawning enemies, and you can lose your weapon if you go too far away. Moreover, throwing a weapon where you can miss and send it flying in the distance or down levels, or some other traversal issue may cause you to lose the weapon.

Ideally, we recommend having non-epic quality weapons you don’t care about losing with the thrown weapon damage modifier perk on your hotbar. That way, you have dedicated weapons you can switch to for throwing, then other weapons dedicated to fighting in melee, or dedicated ranged weapons. Daggers and other one-handed weapons tend to work better, as they often stick into enemies. Combat Knives are especially great for this.

This about concludes all you need to know about throwing weapons in Dying Light The Beast. While you’re here, we have a guide on the best weapons in the game. We also have a pretty in depth The Beast Interactive Map if you need to find certain weapon, collectables and more.
