Throw in how guns are more important in DLTB and you have quite the concoction of interesting weapons. Here’s a look at the best weapons we’ve found in Dying Light: The Beast.

Best Weapons¶
To note, this is largely preferential. We’ll throw in some unique weapons you can get, then some weapon types. The thing with the weapons in the game is that the rarity of the weapons comes with random perks on them too. You’ll find some weapons are better at power attacks, others do better at mod damage. These are things you cannot really control on some weapons. So, be advised that the weapons are somewhat hard to fully lock in what’s great.
We’ll start with unique weapons since these are guaranteed to find either through rewards or blueprint crafts.
If you need any help finding these, we have an interactive map with pins for most of these blueprint and other epic weapon spawn points to help find the best and good weapon RNG spawns.
The Needle¶
Players can get the needle really early on and upgrade this legendary SMG as they go. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.
For gun enthusiasts, there’s a legendary SMG that you can get early called the Needle. You need to head into the National Park area, and find the Forest Ranger station, with two garage doors on it. It is part of the A1 Treasure Map if you’re curious. Now, you need to enter that garage by powering up the fuse box by the shed next to it. Defend the fuse box and then enter the garage. Go to the back, and you will loot the SMG from the locked room.
The Needle is a silenced SMG with decent damage. You will need SMG rounds to use it obviously, but they seem fairly decent enough to farm around level 4 onwards from the Big Convoy, Police car trunks and other ammo supply locations around the map. In addition, you can upgrade this weapon at workbenches, meaning you can keep this legendary weapon on par with your level throughout the entire game if you’d like.
William’s Knife¶
William’s Knife is another one-handed dagger, but it is a rare unique version of it. You get this by completing the What Lurks Beyond the Pines quest from an NPC inside the Town Hall.
The weapon itself is fairly interesting, as it is designed for a Rogue stealth playstyle.
The key perk to this unique weapon is that it deals backstab damage bonuses. So, you want to sneak up to tougher foes you cannot assassinate, and drop a charged attack straight onto them unsuspectingly. It’s great for sneaking up against Goons, Demolishers and enemies of that nature. If you can get behind an enemy by dodging and fast attack stab, then you’ll reap most of the reward from this.
We recommend sticking a weapon mod like Lightning on it. These types of mods activate when you charge attacks, rather than crit-focused mods. It guarantees to increase your attack power while you reap the rewards from the backstab damage bonus too.
The Rust¶
The Rust a craftable 1.5 handed long sword, which is really nice to use. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.
For two-handed fans (or 1.5 handed in this case), there’s a craftable medieval sword. This item is a blueprint craft, which gives players the ability to constantly recraft and use it when your original breaks. The weapon’s blueprint is found in the Highway Bus Refuge Safe House in the Industrial Zone area. It’s along the motor way section near the industrial units.
The weapon has decent damage, attack speed, and has a lot of durability being a sword. It comes with three mods, and if you can find the Field Pages to upgrade it, you can turn this into an even better weapon. It starts off as blue, but its easy enough to upgrade it to epic quality when you intermediate field journals, either by collecting beginner manual journals and crafting them into intermediate, or getting them from mid game Dark Zones or quests.
Sawblade¶
The Sawblade is a legendary weapon that comes from the endgame Safe Zone in the Farmlands region. You can get this blueprint while clearing out The Silos safe zone. The weapon is a ranged weapon and does some of the highest damage of all crafts. The fact it comes at a default legendary quality is a bonus. Though, the ammo is expensive, as is the weapon to craft. So it is a very late game focused weapon, useful for chopping down Volatiles and other higher tier enemies you come across in the game.
Spas Decoy¶
This is a really good supportive gadget to use alongside your weapons It’s why we thing it need to be on the list. Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.
While not quite a weapon, it is an extremely helpful gadget. This is essentially an upgraded firecracker, but it can attract even Virals to it. You can get this from the Good Vibrations, which is the second part of the quest chain that starts from Tom in the Town Hall after the Power main story mission. It’s worth grabbing this as it is a legendary blueprint and costs the same crafting resources as the Firecrackers. It’s extremely handy for controlling where hordes go and escaping areas or clumping enemies for your takedown or other methods of horde control with your weapons or throwables.
EXPcalibur II¶
EXPcalibur makes a return in Dying Light The Beast/ Image via Gamer Guides / Techland.
EXPcalibur is a secret unlockable weapon found as an easter egg on top of a platform in National Park. But, to pull the sword out of the stone, you need to collect all of the Sigil Stone Locations in the game. You cannot do this until about mid game, when you complete the Vengeance is Mine main story mission. When you do complete that mission, you can get the final Sigil Stone hidden inside a locked POI.
When you do have all stones, head to the sword in the stone, found here Map Marker. You can now pull it out and get a legendary weapon. It’s rather strong, as strong as some of the mid to high level guns. Its perks are also very good too, with 500% damage bonus to parkour abilities, 20% to head hits, and a bonus 10% XP gained. It’s very strong indeed. The only downside is that it is irrepairable. So once its durability is gone, then its gone. You should get the Combat perk that decreases durability reduction from attacks to make this go further, as its one of the best skills for it. You do get it as a blueprint though, starting at a rare level. So you can recraft it if you’d like.
Combat Knife¶
Combat Knife is a type of one-handed fast attack weapon, which you can loot. We found an epic version of one from a Large Convoy in the Industrial part of the map. This weapon costs very little stamina, and does a lot of damage head on, with its attacks being fast. It takes about 2-3 to kill a zombie with it, and it can stagger to execute other more durable foes. Considering how fast it attacks, it is one of the best DPS weapon types we have found so far. These also have decent crit modifiers on them, so it’s well worth upgrading them with a critical weapon mod blueprint to really get the most out of it.
Also, these are one of the better throwing weapon types to get your hands on. Largely because you can easily collect the weapon from the landing site. Get one of these with a throw weapon damage perk and you’re goo dot go as a fourth item slot.
Fire Axe¶
The Fire Axe type weapons are really good. These meaty swings are solid two-handed weapon profiles, often with increased charged attack damage bonus perks on them. These are good, as heavy swings can cleave through hordes easily, staggering them. More level appropriate biters often die in 2-3 hits from these things.
The added benefit is that these weapons tend to be long range. If you end up getting the capstone talent from the Power skill points, allowing you to do a 360 cleave attack with your weapon, you can see why the Fire Axe becomes incredibly effective, especially as its slashing damage easily removes limbs from enemies as you swing.
