Resident Evil 9: Requiem

How to Solve The Final Puzzle

After many hours and days pondering the Final Puzzle in Resident Evil Requiem, it seems that it has been solved by two players called Rantsycancy and Kyro. This puzzle requires extremely specific steps across two separate playthroughs and involves some of the most obscure requirements we’ve ever seen in a Resident Evil game. Here’s everything you need to know to complete The Final Puzzle yourself.

As a side note, this was initially solved by datamining the triggers, as it had a lot of the community stuck. Synth Potato, one of the leading influencers on the discovery and many of the earliest steps, spoke about it. They talk about reverse engineering some of the triggers and working out how we were supposed to solve it naturally. At the time of writing, it is at a standstill, but they at least figured the 15-minute part. Other parts of the game are rather mysterious despite now knowing the triggers. It would likely take even longer to figure this out naturally. Impressive work Capcom.

First Playthrough: Setting Up The Puzzle

You need to wait and then let a specific nummber of zombie sget processed to trigger the next stage of the challenge. Image via Gamer Guides / Capcom.

So take note this starts from a new playthrough, where the actual first part of the game begins in the Basement level of Rhodes Hill. You need to time things so make sure you progress the level without killing zombies, and unlock the Forklift to reach the conveyor belt of zombies for processing.

  • Step 1: Wait 15 Minutes at the Meat Processing Plant

    • When you reach the basement’s meat processing plant during the conveyor belt sequence, you need to wait exactly 15 minutes before proceeding. This resets the game’s internal flag tracking back to 0.
    • Set a timer and wait in the processing plant area. You don’t need to do anything during this time—just stay in the area and let the game run.
  • Step 2: Don’t Kill ANY Zombies During the Processor Sequence

    • Once you proceed with the basement conveyor belt sequence after waiting 15 minutes, you must not kill a single zombie during this entire section. This is critical.
    • The 115 zombies need to actually be processed into the blood collection system. Killing them breaks the puzzle chain. You’ll need to run past enemies, use pushes to stun them, and focus entirely on evasion rather than combat. If you need to shoot them, hit them in the leg to knee cap them and they should go straight to the crusher. That area has enough ammo spawns, and from saving ammo in other levels to make this easy.
      • If you need more help, try the infinite ammo cheat.
  • Step 3: Flush a Toilet Eight Times in the West Wing

    • After completing the basement section, head to the toilets in the West Wing (2F West Wing, near the Records Room). Find one of the toilets and interact with it to flush it exactly eight times.
    • You must carefully flush the toilet eight times, no more, no less.
      • There are no in-game hints for this step whatsoever. This appears to be pure obscurity, though the number eight may relate to other puzzle elements in the game. Dataminers couldn’t find a clear reference for this requirement. At least at the time of writing.
  • Step 4: Proceed Normally Until Victor’s Office in the Basement

    • Continue playing the game normally until you reach the basement of Victor’s office where you obtain the Pilot’s Key. You do not need to pick up the Severed Hand during this playthrough.
    • As you’re escaping the basement after getting the Pilot’s Key, Marie’s Doll will spawn at the staircase. This only appears if you’ve completed Steps 1-3 correctly. Pick it up.
  • Step 5: Finish the Game with Marie’s Doll in the Item Box

    • Store Marie’s Doll in the Item Box and complete the rest of the game normally. The doll must remain in your Item Box (not sold, not discarded) until you finish the game and see the credits roll.
    • Once you’ve completed the game, Marie’s Doll will carry over to your next playthrough—similar to how challenge point unlocks work.

As far as we can gather from reverse engineering the datamined files, there’s a document that reads “Extracted a 2.3 milliliter sample from the 524.3 liters of blood collected from 115 infected. Administered to Marie. Henceforth registered as subject 170.” The 15-minute wait allows 115 unwrapped zombies to enter the processor, which is required for the puzzle’s flag system. It likely relates to a file in one of the levels. The other triggers remain a mystery, such as how the toilet sequence works, and why you need to carry the doll like its the gnome from Half Life 2. But hey oh.

Second / Third Playthrough

Now you need to replay the game with the doll from the last save. The reason why is because you need to interact with the Severed Hand, which we mentioned gave clues to the puzzle and opening the box.

  • Step 6: Replay through the game and complete the basement level as normal, then Pick Up the Severed Hand.

  • Step 7: Analyze the Severed Hand at a Blood Analyzer and complete the RNA sequence puzzle.

    • If you want to do it organically, you can complete the game up to Raccoon City Center and get a hint from the doll head in the basketball area as Leon after the boss battle. But, its just a clue to get rid of a red herring from the noise from the Severed Hand and not exactly needed.
  • Step 8: Enter the Code at the Sun/Star/Moon Puzzle Box.

    • Head to the 2F East Wing and locate the Sun/Star/Moon Puzzle Box (the same one used for the Hourglass puzzle). You need to input the specific code derived from:
      • The Hourglass clue
      • The “GLITCH” phrase from the Severed Hand
      • The “phrase that does not work” clue from the doll head basketball hoop puzzle in Central Raccoon City
  • Step 9 - Input the correct combination while carrying Emily when you complete Rhodes Hill before the basement, hence why you need yet another run if you’re doing it organically. For the exact code sequence, refer to our Severed Hand guide which breaks down the full solution.

    • If entered correctly, you’ll trigger the Final Puzzle completion and unlock exclusive bonus content.

If it works, you’ll have completed the Final Puzzle in Resident Evil Requiem. That’s 20k bonus points, which can help you get bonus content for completing Insanity difficulty, unlocking infinite ammo or whatever other rewards you want to get for 100% completion.
