Best Starting Question
Stealth is a big part of the Metal Gear Solid series, but Metal Gear Solid Delta:
Snake Eater changes things up a little bit by adding the Camo Index. Essentially, the camouflage options you have play a big part in how hidden you are from enemies in the various locations you visit. No single camouflage will work very well across the entirety of the game, so you will have to adjust, depending on the area you’re in. Read on below to find out how to properly use camouflage, and how the Camo Index works.
Camo Index¶
You’re introduced to camouflage and the Camo Index very early in the game. Both are extremely important if you wish to remain undetected by enemies, so let’s go over some basics. When you’re playing the game, the Camo Index is shown at the bottom of the screen, next to your health and stamina. The lower the number, the more likely you are able to be seen by enemies, so you want it to be as high as possible. Moving will reduce your Camo Index, while standing still will increase it. The best way to increase your Camo Index will be to go prone in grass, staying still.
Your Camo Index is shown at the bottom of the screen, next to your health/stamina.
Make sure you always check your current camo/face paint in each new area.
Camouflage is split into two parts, the Uniform and Face Paint. Both will have numbers next to them, indicating how effective they are in your current spot. As already said, the higher the number, the better off you will be. You should always be keeping an eye on your Camo Index, especially if you’re trying to not alert any enemies. For the most part, you will be able to find more Uniforms and Face Paints just laying around during your playthrough.
The only caveat to these are the Uniforms that can only be gotten if you defeat bosses non-lethally. Instead of using weapons that hurt their health, you’ll have to use weapons that damage their stamina. This might prove difficult, of course, but it’s the only way to get those items.
