All Fish Locations
Tsuchinoko Location
During the missions in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, you will have to procure your own food. This comes in the form of fruits, animals and plants. There are many animals in the game that don’t fit into a specific category, like the Indian Gavial, for example. If it isn’t a frog, fish, bird, or snake, then it will be featured on this page.
Baltic Hornet’s Nest¶
The Hornet’s Nest isn’t something that you will come across too often, but it can help more often than not. The first instance of one is during Virtuous Mission, in the Dremuchij Swampland area. On the little island in the middle of the swamp will be some trees, and hanging from one of them will be the nest. Shoot it from afar and after the insects go away, you can pick up the nest to add it into your inventory. You can get another one in Dolinovodno, which the game highlights when you first arrive in the zone. Shoot it down to make the guard run in fear, then drop down to loot it.
Shoot down the Hornet’s Nest from afar, to avoid the angry insects.
Cobalt Blue Tarantula¶
The Cobalt Blue Tarantula can be easy to miss, since it is so small and this animal is probably one where the Thermal Goggles can help tremendously. The first instance of finding one of these will be in Ponizovje West, with it located on the rock by the explosive barrels. The next spot to find one is in Ponizovje Warehouse Exterior, where it will be on a wall. The Ponizovje Warehouse will also have some on the bottom floor of the place, near some barrels.
Emperor Scorpion¶
Another animal that can be tough to see, due to its small size and the fact that it blends into the environment a little bit. The first time you can run into them is at Krasnogorje Mountain Base, where they’ll be on the ground in the area, so use your Thermal Goggles to try and locate them. You can also find them in the other Krasnogorje areas, the Mountainside and Mountainside Ruins.
European Rabbit¶
The European Rabbit can first be found in the same area as the Markhor, in Dremuchij South, but only after you are in Operation Snake Eater. Remember that you’ll want to backtrack after getting your weapon taken away from you at the start of the operation. Outside of this area, you will also be able to find some rabbits in both the Ocelot and The Fear boss battles.
Your first instance of the European Rabbit is in Dremuchij South, during Operation Snake Eater.
Indian Gavial¶
The Indian Gavial is an animal that you will run into relatively early, in the Virtuous Mission. The second area after you land and gain control is the Dremuchij Swampland, where you will have a large number of the creatures. They can hurt you, so you need to be cautious in approaching them. A good idea is to put them to sleep with your Mk22, then get close enough that you can stab them with your knife. Each Gavial to kill (they cannot be captured) yield three meals. You will also find more in Chyornyj Prud, and you can return to the Swampland during the beginning of Operation Snake Eater.
Japanese Flying Squirrel¶
This creature can be a little hard to spot when you first get the chance to capture one in Dremuchij East, at the beginning of Operation Snake Eater. When you step into the open section of the area, you might notice some creature running up some of the trees. This is the Japanese Flying Squirrel and it can be hard to see it at night. The best thing to do is find a tree it climbs, then wait there until it starts climbing it again. Once it does, you can pop a shot at it to capture/kill it. You can find it again in Graniny Gorki South.
A Squirrel can be found on the trees in Dremuchij East, when you start Operation Snake Eater.
Kenyan Mangrove Crab¶
The Kenyan Mangrove Crab is something you might easily overlook, but the first appearance of it is someplace you are forced to go. When you reach the Chyornaya Peschera Branch, you’ll find that the cave is pretty dark and it’s hard to see. However, explore enough and you will eventually happen upon a Torch. Equip it and in that same alcove with the Torch, look on the ground to find some Mangrove Crabs. If you fail to get some there, you can also find more in Chyornaya Peschera Cave, Ponizovje South, and Ponizovje Warehouse.
Markhor¶
The Markhor is a goat that can be found relatively close to the beginning of Operation Snake Eater. After you get your weapon taken from you, Rassvet is meant to be your next destination. However, you can backtrack to the beginning areas of Dremuchij, where you started the Virtuous Mission at the very first area. When you reach Dremuchij South, crawl back underneath the one log and you should see the Markhor right there, roaming around. It’s too big to capture, so you’ll have to kill it to get the food from it.
Backtrack to Dremuchij South in the second mission to find a Markhor.
Later in the game, you can find more of these creatures in the areas where you fight The End, which are Sokrovenno South/North/West. Additionally, after the events with The Sorrow, head to Tikhogornyj to find another one.
Rat¶
The first location where you can get the Rat is during the Virtuous Mission. Once you make it to Rassvet, you will find some guards patrolling the area where you have to rescue Sokolov. Put them all to sleep, if you want, then head in between the two ruined buildings here. On the side of the building where Sokolov is located is some grass. There’s a hole that allows you to sneak underneath the building, so do that and you’ll find some Rats there. You’ll come back to Rassvet during Operation Snake Eater, where you can do the same thing, which will be easier as you won’t encounter enemies right away.
There are more areas where you can encounter Rats later in the game, like Chyornaya Peschera Branch, and the Cave Entrance. Ponizovje Warehouse and Svyatogornyj East are also home to more, as well as Krasnogorje Tunnel.
You can find some Rats underneath the building where Sokolov was in Rassvet.
Vampire Bat¶
As you might expect, you’ll be finding Vampire Bats in tunnels and caves. The first time you can happen upon them is in Chyornaya Peschera Branch, the cave that’s really dark. The first thing you should do here is find the Torch, which is between two waterfalls. After getting it, there will be another tunnel in the same area, leading to a ledge. On that ledge, you can find a crawlspace that leads to an area with Vampire Bats on the ceiling, so shoot one down to get it. There will be more in Chyornaya Peschera Cave, before the boss fight with The Pain, as well as in Krasnogorje Tunnel and in Groznyj Grad Underground Tunnel.
