There are scores - if not hundreds - of monster materials in Monster Hunter Wilds, enough that anybody could have trouble keeping track of them all. Even otherwise astute hunters may not be able to recall where they got a specific feather, bone or scale from, especially since some monsters can drop more than one type of scale and that’s not even counting the difference between low rank and high rank variants! To help ease some confusion, this page will cover how to find
Guardian Scale+ materials in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Farming Guardian Scale+¶
There are quite a few different sorts of scales in Monster Hunter Wilds - if it’s not a La Barina, Congalala,
Doshaguma,
Rompopolo,
Nerscylla,
Nu Udra,
Xu Wu,
Gypceros,
Gravios or
Blangonga, it probably has some scale or another as a material drop. Most of these are pretty common, straight-forward materials to farm - destroy wounds, carve the monster’s carcass, or hope to get the scale as a random reward at the end of the hunt. In other words, hunt the monster a lot and you’ll be rolling in scales… before you inevitably come to your senses and put them to use making some armor or weapon.
One scale type, however, is a bit different, being simultaneously shared between a few monsters and yet somewhat rarer than others - the Guardian Scale+. Breaking down its name should help pinpoint where to get it - it’s dropped by high rank “Guardian” monsters that have scales, namely the
Guardian Rathalos and the Guardian Black Odogaron. The
Guardian Doshaguma doesn’t have scales and the
Guardian Fulgur Anjanath doesn’t drop Guardian Scale+ materials, for whatever reason.
(1 of 2) Guardian Scale+ materials are odd in that they drop from only the Guardian Ebony Odogaron and the Guardian Rathalos, and even then, primarily when you destroy their wounds.

You can find these rank five monsters roaming around starting in Chapter 4, exclusively in the Wyveria region. Hunting them via Field Surveys and Investigations work fine, but there are only two ways to get Guardian Scale+ materials to drop from these two monsters. First, you can destroy wounds to have a low (12%) chance of getting a Guardian Scale+, which will be your primary means of farming these materials. Skills that increase your odds of inflicting wounds (Flayer) may come in handy, but generally you just need to keep an eye out for wounds and make sure to destroy them when you see them. Second, there are a handful of quests you can partake in that task you with hunting down a Guardian
Rathalos and the Guardian Black Odogaron which may reward you with Guardian Scale+ materials as a bonus quest reward (Field Surveys and Investigations also seem to count)
All in all, the best way to farm Guardian Scale+ materials is to either just hunt Guardian Ebony Odogarons and Guardian Rathalos monsters via Field Surveys and Investigations, or complete the following quests repeatedly:
White Wails,
The King’s Triumphant Return or
Purrfect Plundering. Not only do you have a chance to get Guardian Scale+ materials from wounds, but you can also get them as quest rewards. Your odds are still poor, so expect to do multiple runs to get a sufficient number of Guardian Scale+ materials for crafting, but that’s Monster Hunter for you.

Guardian Scale+ Crafting¶
Guardian Scale+ materials are required to craft numerous objects, including a wide variety of weapons. Most players, however, will probably develop a need for these materials when they want to craft some late-game armor, like the Guardian Ark Mail (Palico armor) and G. Arkveld Greaves. Guardian Scale+ materials are also required for the Damascus Coil, Damascus Greaves,
G. Rathalos Mail,
G. Ebony Mail and Guild Ace Mail. If you’re just trying to craft the G. Ebony set or the G. Rathalos set, you may not have any trouble getting Guardian Scale+ materials - you’re hunting the target enemies for another materials, after all, but for other gear it could become a bit of a chore to grind Guardian Rathalos and the Guardian Black Odogaron for one rare material.
Guardian Scale+ materials are required to craft numerous arms and armor, including pieces of the Arkveld set - a material Arkveld itself does not drop
