Crafting Minigame Explained
All Strangeling Locations
Making money can always be tough in games, especially in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. The primary currency in the game is called
Dosh and there are a variety of ways to make some small change. As you progress through the game, you will notice that merchants will have a lot more items, which will cost a lot of money, especially recipes for the various objects for the crafting Lives. This page will detail some tips and tricks to making Dosh, as well as go over some of the bigger ways to make a lot of it.
Sell Items and Equipment¶
Considering the nature of the game, you are going to be looting a lot of items. While it’s never a good idea to sell stuff like materials, due to possibly needing them for crafting, you likely aren’t going to need 1,000 (or 999, since that seems to be the max stack for a lot of things) of a single item. There isn’t a limit on your inventory space, but it’s always a good idea to go through and trim the fat, if you feel your inventory is getting too large. This also goes true for equipment, as you will be looting a lot of it as you start killing minibosses and bosses. If you’re level 50 and armed to the teeth, you’re not going to need that starting sword still in your inventory.
Complete Side Quests¶
There will be a lot of NPCs in the game that will have side quests for you, usually to kill a specific enemy or to bring back a certain item. Doing these is a good idea, especially towards the start of the game, since they almost always reward you with some Dosh. Outside of a few early quests giving you a lot of money (because of the 10,000 needed for the story), most of these rewards will be small change, like a couple hundred. As you progress through the story, some of the later quests will start handing out more, though.
Defeat Enemies¶
This kind of goes hand-in-hand with the first point above, but defeating enemies is another good way to get some cash. While the enemies themselves drop some Dosh, it’s really small amounts, so you’d need to defeat A LOT of them to get rich. However, enemies will drop materials often, and sometimes even some chests that reward you with equipment. Once you start running into the rare monsters, you will start getting more and more equipment drops via chests. This tip kind of goes along with a bigger opportunity…
Nostruul Cave¶
This is a cave found in Ginormosia, in one of the later regions, which has nothing but
Mimics inside of it. Nostruul Cave is the name of it and it’s found at the southern end of the Drakesnout Range region, which is located on the western end of Ginormosia. The Mimics inside of the cave are around level 35 or so at the base level of the area, so you’ll want to wait until you have a combat class at about level 25-30, or so.
The Mimics aren’t hard to fight, as they tend to do area of effect skills often, but they do have some melee strikes. If you are a Magician or
Hunter, they will be a lot easier to handle, especially with some Combat-based Buddies accompanying you. The great thing about these Mimics is that they tend to drop chests with equipment in it very often, plus they drop items intended for selling to merchants almost all the time. The cave is also filled with Gold Ore Deposits, for those that have some proficiency in the Miner Life.
Some of the equipment dropped by the Mimics might actually be useful the first time you run through the cave, so equip them as needed. Otherwise, you can sell the rest after you do a few runs of the place. It should also be noted that there is a Legendary Recipe found inside this cave, for the
Legendary Feast.
White Woolie Stickers¶
The best money-making method in the game revolves around crafting
White Woolie Stickers. You can get the recipe for this from
Marco’s Shop at your base camp, but only after delivering the items he needs to get two stars. Once you’ve done this, head over to the recipes tab and purchase the
White Woolie Sticker recipe. Note that before doing this, you will want to unlock the
Artist Life and get a decent level/crafting stat in it (probably around 600-700 should be more than enough). Of course, you could always get the respective Artist Strangelings, too, to help boost your crafting stat.
The reason the White Woolie Sticker is great for making Dosh is because all of the ingredients can be bought, plus the 250 stat suggestion when crafting makes it easy to get the most out of the materials. After purchasing the recipe, you will see you need one each of a
Desert Log,
Sheep Fleece, and
Red Paint. The first two can be bought from Marco himself, while the third can be gotten from the Materials Shop on Tropica Isles. If you’re just getting started, make sure you spend enough to get equal amounts of each material needed.
From there, you can just head to any crafting table (one in the room to the right of Marco’s Shop) and craft the max amount you can for the stickers. You want to aim for Perfects here, so you get more from each craft. Once you’ve gotten an initial batch, sell them to fund the next one. Keep doing this until you can purchase 999 of each material, which is when you won’t really need to sell the stickers anymore. You can only make 99 at a time, which results in 248 with the bonus from doing a Perfect craft. At this point, you can keep the loop going, since any stickers past the 999 cap will be sold for Dosh automatically.
