"Odogaron" iconOdogaron are nasty little squirrel-like monsters, all claws, fangs, fury and a bit of bleeding wounds to go with it! It’s doubly unfortunate, then, that such a vicious critter has made a nuisance of itself in Tarkuan’s Rococo Rocks region. This page will help you drive off the "Invasive Odogaron" iconInvasive Odogaron, providing preparations and strategies for the fight in Monster Hunter Stories 3!

Invasive Odogaron Location and Preparation

You can’t just wing it with this fight - specific preparations will need to be made… incidentally including some wings to reach the Invasive Odogaron’s lofty domain, as well as a Monstie that can climb. First, make sure you have an "Almudron" iconAlmudron and that said Almudron has the “Mud Torrent” ability. Specifically you need something that “deals water damage, then sets a trap that continuously deals water damage”. This ability should be native to the Almudroon, and given the nature of the upcoming fight it shouldn’t really matter much how strong your Almudroon is - the Invasive Odogaron is likely going to one-shot it with most of its attacks regardless of its level. This goes for much of your party, mind you, so other preparations are rather moot.

When you’re ready, travel to the “Rococo Rocks” Catavan Stand along the northern edge of the Rococo Rocks region, make sure you’re set to arrive at night, and that you have a Monstie who can fly. When those conditions are met, look west and you’ll find a ledge across a gap - with a good running jump and a glide you can just make it across, but if your flyer isn’t up to the task, you can also look southwest to find a tall air vent that’ll take you high in the sky - high enough that you should be able to easily glide over to the ledge. Once you make it, just head southwest, climb a wall, and continue southwest.

En route to the Invasive Odogaron’s den you’ll find some tracks on the passage ahead of you. The second set of tracks can be found just in front of the circular clearing the Invasive Odogaron prowls - be careful, it can likely spot you near here if it’s looking in this direction! - and the third at the back of the den itself. You’ll have to make sure you wait until the Invasive Odogaron isn’t looking to collect all the tracks, which helpfully suggest that the Odgaron is capable of performing fire attacks by using the ground as a source of ignition, and that it was fighting some sort of mud-flinging monster.

You will have to eat two likely lethal attacks at the start of the fight - “Devour”,

and the Invasive Monster’s signature attack, “Invasive Crimson Claws”.

Defeating the Invasive Odogaron

When you’re ready (or unlucky) engage the Invasive Odogaron. Like most invasive monster fights, there’s not much you can do at the start, so here’s how the first few rounds play out:

  • Attack Invasive Odogaron. You only have one target - it’s claws. They are weak to Piercing damage.
  • Invasive Odogaron will use “Devour”, likely one-shotting its random target.
  • Same as last round, focus on the Claws, but don’t get too invested, as your actions don’t matter all that much yet.
  • Invasive Odogaron will use “Invasive Crimson Claws”, also likely one-shotting its target.
  • On Invasive Odogaron’s third turn it’ll either perform a normal attack (can be countered) or if you broke its Claws it’ll use “Rebirth” to regrow them, albeit at low HP.

After the first two rounds, ensure to spam “Mud Torrent” to keep the ground wet under the Invasive Odogaron,

and the next time it attacks it’ll be unable to use its signature move, causing it to slip, fall and flee!

After its third turn, you’ll be told that “this is where the real fight begins”, signalling that you’ve done the required semi-scripted drudgery and can actually attempt to win. Invasive Odogaron will now reset and start using “Devour” then “Invasive Crimson Claws”. All you need to do here is land a “Muddy Torrent” attack - or miss, as long as it leaves a mud trap on the ground. If the Invasive Odogaron’s Claws are broken it’ll perform a weaker, survivable (but still painful) claw attack. Going forward, if the Invasive Odogaron attempts a claw attack while there’s mud on the ground, it’ll fail, and in the wake of this failure run off back to its den. So just spam “Muddy Torrent” following its scripted round of attacks and you should emerge victorious!

The only thing to worry about here is RNG - if the Invasive Odogaron targets you or your Monstie with its first two attacks, it can leave you in a bad spot for the rest of the fight, but this is just luck. If you lose, try again and hope it targets your companions with at least one attack, or fails to take down your last Heart once the scripted segment is over with.

Recover and hatch the Zinogre,

and release it into a region with a Mizutsune monster to ensure you get the Thunderlord Zinogre mutation!

When you win, follow the Invasive Odogaron back to its den and break the egg quartz to obtain a Fanged Wyvern Egg. Hatch it and you’ll add a "Zinogre" iconZinogre to your stables. The Zinogre has two mutations, the "Stygian Zinogre" iconStygian Zinogre and the "Thunderlord Zinogre" iconThunderlord Zinogre. The former is easy to create, as it only requires you to get Zinogre to Rank S in a region, but the Stygian Zinogre requires either a Zinogre or a Stygian Zinogre at Rank S and the presence of another endangered monster with “enchanting purple fur” that is its bitter rival. This is the Mizustune, which is acquired by defeating the Invasive Shogun Ceanataur, and since Mizustune also has a variant, you need to put the Zinogre and the "Mizutsune" iconMizutsune in a region with no non-native monsters, as these two monsters and their variants will ultimately end up adding five new creatures to the area. We just put them both in the Cataracts region of the Canalta Timberland, but any region with five open slots will work.
