How to Find the Frozen Grotto
Invasive Khezu Guide
Diablos monsters are some of the nastiest critters in Monster Hunter, what with the horns, and burrowing, and whatnot… so naturally tangling with an
Invasive Diablos may give some more wary hunters pause. This page will help you force the Invasive Diablos dwelling in the Colossal Dragon’s Remains region of Tarkuan to retreat, including preparations and strategies for the fight and information on what endangered monster egg you’ll rescue in Monster Hunter Stories 3!
Page Breakdown¶
Invasive Diablos Location and Preparation¶
To encounter the Invasive Diablos, you will need to find its lair along the southeastern edge of the Colossal Dragon’s Remains region, but before you go, be sure to equip a Hammer-type weapon with any “Meteor” ability - the humble
Bone Hammer with “
Meteor Hammer” works, but something more potent like “
Spinning Meteor” will also get the job done, albeit less effectively due to a higher Stamina cost. You can also equip Decorations like “Self-Heal” and “Stamina Surge”, which will make your life easier if things go awry and drag on.
Once you’re ready, travel to the “Lookout Point: Rococo Rocks” Catavan Stand and make sure it’s night time - as per standard, you will only encounter this invasive monster at night - then head southeast, drop down from the rock formation you’re on and continue southeast to the edge of the region, at which point follow a passage along some cliffs to the southwest. Eventually you’ll spot a long stretch of climbable rock to the right, atop of which you’ll find the Invasive Diablos stomping around.
The first tracks for this monster lie just ahead, to the northwest, but you need to wait for the Invasive Diablos to pass (it’ll roam northeast) to get it. Once done, scale the wall nearby to find another track, then ignore the climbable wall to the north and look east and down, instead. Wait for the Invasive Diablos to wander back west past where you found the first tracks and drop down and explore the easternmost part of the Invasive Diablos’s realm to find the final tracks. These, aside from giving you info that you need a hammer and you need to bonk the Invasive Diablos as it surfaces, are only marginally helpful.
Withstand a few attacks and waste some turns (without expending Stamina!) and the Invasive Diablos will burrow, leaving three mounds in its wake.
Target the RIGHT mound with a “Meteor” ability and you’ll intercept the Invasive Diablos as it emerges with a mighty bonk!
Defeating the Invasive Diablos¶
Armed with this intel, get the Invasive Diablos’s attention to start a fight. As usual there are some specific steps that will happen before the fight truly begins, so to save you anxiety, here’s how the fight will play out:
- Do whatever you want on the first turn, just don’t use Stamina.
- The Invasive Diablo will use “Beastly Roar” which will stun some party members, wasting their turn.
- Do whatever you want on the second turn as well, as long as it doesn’t consume stamina.
- Invasive Diablos will burrow and perform its “Earthquake” attack, which deals light damage to the whole party.
- Invasive Diablos will, following Earthquake, create three mounds while remaining burrowed.
Now is the time where your actions matter! You need to use a Meteor ability on one of the three mounds, which indicates where Invasive Diablos may launch its subterranean attack. In our experience, Invasive Diablos will always start with the rightmost mound, so aim a “Meteor Strike” (or other “Meteor” ability) on the rightmost mound and you should give the monster a thorough bonking!
If you succeed, the chastised Invasive Diablos will flee to its den, if you miss, you will need to repeat the process above over again, starting from its “Earthquake” attack. The Invasive Diablos doesn’t deal a ton of damage, surprisingly, so if you have health and stamina regen you should be ready to try again without much risk of defeat - you can always use a Hunting Horn or items to heal, if you need to. Worst case scenario you can just keep striking the same mound, as the Invasive Diablos cycles through the ones he emerges from in a regular pattern, but even the lowest-tier Meteor skill will cost 30+ Stamina, which might not be sustainable without breaks.
Follow the fleeing Invasive Diablos into its den and harvest a Flying Wyvern Egg,
which hatches a Tigrex!
Once you land a hit on the emerging beast, enter its den and grab the endangered Flying Wyvern egg! When you hatch it, you’ll get a
Tigrex Monstie, which can be rehabilitated to Rank S - the subject of the side quest
The Bane of the Land Returns. The quest-giver for this is located right near the “Lookout Point: Rococo Rocks” Catavan Stand. We suggest releasing the Tigrex in the Rococo Rocks region, as two mutations can come from this - the
Brute Tigrex will appear when the Tigrex is at Rank A or higher and the
Grimclaw Tigrex will appear if you have three Power-type monsters in the region.
Gravios, Diablo and
Black Diablos are all native Power-type monsters, and Brute Tigrex will make the fourth such monster, making this a pretty convenient spot for all manner of Tigrex!
