Fall's Rest Shrine
Mount Yotei is the most significant geographic feature in Ezo - significant enough to bestow its name on a river, an inn and the entire plain to the east. And to the game itself, of course. It should be no surprise that such a lofty mountain has become an object of religious significance, featuring a shrine at its summit. This is quite a lengthy climb, but the reward is worth it, as you’ll obtain two upgradeable major charms, an [Altar of Reflection] and a [Pillar of the Fallen] should you manage to surmount it. This page will provide a walkthrough for reaching the summit of Mount Yotei in Ghost of Yotei.

The location of the Mount Yotei Shrine on the map,
following the Torii gates will lead you to a ruined wooden bridge, and the start of the platforming segment.
Mount Yotei Shrine Location¶
You can find the entrance to the Mount Yotei Shrine along the northwestern edge of the Yotei Grasslands region. Follow the Sarubetsu River north until the Yotei River splits off it - it’ll run west past Master Heijiro’s Garden before terminating near the entrance to the shrine. A bit north of this river you’ll find a trail of white flowers that will terminate at the Torii gates that indicate the entrance to the shrine is near.
Mount Yotei Shrine Summit Directions¶
Pass through the Torii gates at the end of the trail of white flower and these gates should guide you up the intended pilgrimage path at the foot of the mountain, but alas, a collapsed wooden bridge impedes easy progress forward. Below are directions that’ll help you get through the platforming required to reach the top of Mount Yotei:
- At the end of the wooden bridge, jump across some branches onto a ledge near a waterfall.
- Turn left and jump and grapple up to another ledge.
- Climb some cliffs and Atsu will comment on a ginkgo tree.
- Continue through a Torii gate and slide through a cleft to truly begin your ascent.
- Follow a mountain path to the left, cross some beams, veer left up some stairs, then climb some ledges.
- Follow the path to the right past some fox statues and slide down a slope. As you slide, jump and press
to grapple onto a rope and climb up. Cross the rope and climb a ledge to reach another Torii gate.
- Head upstairs, slide down another slope and when you recover, climb a ledge.
- Turn left and climb some cliffs.
- Continue upstairs through another Torii gate, pass under a natural stone arch, cross a beam, jump a gap using a platform, go up more stairs, jump another gap, and at the end of a broken bridge jump and grapple to climb to a higher ledge.
- Continue through another Torii gate, to the end of a broken bridge and turn left to spot some ropes. Jump and grapple to climb onto the nearest rope, then repeat the process with the second rope. Cross the rope to the right.
- Climb a ledge, turn left and head past a tree.
- Jump a gap to the left.
- Climb a cliff ahead, then jump and grapple when your climbing is impeded.
- Cross a fallen tree and at the end of it jump and grapple to reach a higher ledge.
- Go upstairs, turn right, cross a rope and you’ll reach a hut, which Atsu will comment on.
- Go up some more stairs and jump and grapple onto a rope
- Head right on the rope until you find a branch you can jump onto.
- From the branch, jump onto a plank, then jump and grapple onto a second rope.
- Jump onto a ledge to the right, continue up more ledges, turn left to reach a ledge with two Hydrangea flowers on it.
- On the ledge with two Hydrangea flowers, turn left and jump across a branch onto a ledge with a plank on it.
- Continue forward under a red Torii gate, turn left and climb some more ledges to reach the bottom of a rocky slope, where the stairs terminate.
- Turn left and climb a ledge, jump across a branch to reach another ledge.
- Ascend as far as you can, then jump into the slope and keep trying to jump to the far side of said slope - you should be able to reach a snowy ledge below where you jumped if you keep trying to jump across as you slide.
- Continue to ascend by jumping across snowy rocks, cross under another red Torii gate and continue upstairs to reach another rocky slope.
- Slide down the slope and jump and grapple when you’re near (under) a rope. Climb up and jump onto a ledge to the left.
- Jump a gap, then jump onto a cliff you can climb.
- Jump across two branches, and on the second branch jump and grapple to climb to a higher ledge.
- Turn right, jump over a gap to reach another Torii gate, then turn left under the gate to find a cleft you can squeeze through ahead.
- Pretty close, now! Continue forward under another red Torii gate. Jump a gap, follow the path until you reach a slope, slide down.
- Continue forward on the linear path ahead to reach another rocky slope - just follow the snowy path below and you’ll be fine.
- Reach another red Torii gate after jumping some gaps. Continue past this Torii gate and look for a rock to the left. Circle around this rock to the left to climb up atop it, then jump a gap ahead.
- Climb a ledge, then a cliff. Turn right and head up some snow-covered stairs to finally reach the summit.
(1 of 3) Pray at the shrine atop the mountain to obtain the Mother’s Charm and Father’s Charm.
Mother’s Charm and Father’s Charm¶
Praying at the summit of Mount Yotei will reward you with two upgraded able major charms - Mother’s Charm and Father’s Charm. The former will increase the damage your arrows deal, upgrading when you learn more shamisen songs, while the latter will cause perfect parries to recover a bit of health, upgrading as you complete [Sumi-e Paintings].
You can also find a [Pillar of the Fallen] and an [Altar of Reflection] up here. While facing the shrine atop the summit turn left and follow the edge of the caldera - again, let the snow be your guide. You’ll pass a trunk that’ll let you fast travel back down, but keep going and eventually you’ll find the Pillar of the Fallen. To reach the Altar of Reflection, you need to descend into the caldera itself, which can be done by simply sliding down any of the numerous rocky slopes nearby, then heading to the center of the caldera.
