Hot Springs return in Ghost of Yotei, boosting Atsu’s maximum health the first time she bathes in a new hot spring, making these well worth seeking out. If that’s not enough incentive, you’ll also power up the Charm of Thoughtful Restoration (found by visiting any hot spring for the first time) each time you visit a hot spring, giving you a further boost to your maximum life while the charm is equipped. Collectively the hot springs and this charm will increase Atsu’s health tremendously, and this page will point out the location of every hot spring and how to complete its bonus objective in Ghost of Yotei.
Page Breakdown¶
Yotei Grasslands Hot Springs¶
The first region you’ll find yourself in after the prologue, and one of the most generous in terms of hot springs - likely to help boost your early-game health up to more respectable levels. You’ll find four hot springs in this region.
The location of the Yotei’s Shadow (not affiliated with the inn) hot spring on the map.
All you need to do is a bit of climbing to reach this one - no bonus objective or anything.
Yotei’s Shadow Hot Spring¶
Along the western edge of the Yotei Grasslands region, near Shikotsu Woods. From Yotei’s Shadow Inn, cross the Sarubetsu River to the southwest to find this hot spring on a hill overlooking a small lake. You will come here during the side quest Old Trails, which is at the “The Old Stables” en route to The Way of the Dual Katana, so it’s very likely this will be the first hot spring you come across - it’s also very hard to miss.
Horizon View Hot Spring¶
Along the southern edge of the Yotei Grasslands region. From Yotei’s Shadow Inn, head south across the Shikotsu River, past Lake Kuttara, and eventually you’ll reach some cliffs overlooking the coast (this will be east of the “Southern Coast” text on your map). When you get close, the Golden Bird will lead you down a cliff and across some beams to the hot springs. Drink some sake before entering the hot spring and a fox will appear as you bathe. You’ll find some money waiting for you when you’re done.
The location of the Wild Clearing hot spring on the map.
Bow towards Mount Yotei to complete the bonus objective.
Wild Clearing Hot Spring¶
Head northeast from the Yotei’s Shadow Inn in the Yotei Grasslands region, past an Altar of Reflection south of the “Maw of the Serpent”. This hot spring is north of said Altar of Reflection, just south of the aforementioned text - the Golden Bird will lead you up some cliffs to your destination when you get close. Be sure to bow towards Mount Yotei on the precipice nearby!
Hidden Cliff Hot Spring¶
At the northernmost edge of the Yotei Grasslands region you’ll find “The Road to Ishikari Plain”, a small encampment that serves as a waypoint between the two regions. From the southern entrance to this garrison, head southwest across the river, then follow the Golden Bird who should lead you west to some cliffs. Climb, jump and grapple your way up to this hot spring and light the lanterns outside before you bathe.
Ishikari Plain Hot Springs¶
To reach this region you’ll need to head to the northernmost edge of the Yotei Grasslands region and pass through “The Road to Ishikari Plain”, which involves completing a quest of the same name. There are four hot springs in this region - good incentive to explore this region if you can best the Oni’s raiders during the aforementioned quest.
Bear Rock Hot Spring¶
From Ishikari Market, cross the Ishikari River to the east and follow the side of a rocky hill north, then east - the Golden Bird should arrive around this point to guide you. Climb up the hill and eventually you’ll reach a ledge where you need to jump and grapple to a branch ,then swing and jump to more branches before climbing a cliff to ascend to the upper reaches of the hill, upon which you’ll find this hot spring. An awfully dangerous trek for a bath! Use your spyglass and look at Ishikari Castle in the distance before you enter the hot spring to complete the bonus objective.
The location of Kappa’s hot spring on the map.
Aside from some unsettling kappa masks lying and hanging around, there’s nothing exceptional about this hot spring.
Kappa’s Hot Spring¶
Along the eastern edge of the Ishikari Plain region, northeast of Ishikari Market, north of the “Ishikari Forest” text on the map. This hot spring is right out in the open, and there doesn’t seem to be a bonus objective this time around.
Smoky Mountains Hot Spring¶
Along the northern edge of the Ishikari Plain region, between Rumoi River and Nakagoya Spring (to the west and south, respectively) you’ll find the “White Deer Woodlands”. This hot spring is just above the “Deer” word on the map. You’ll have to climb some cliffs, jump on some branches and use your grapple to reach it. When you’re there, pull the weeds surrounding the hot spring to complete the bonus objective.
The location of the Cloud View hot spring on the map.
Cross Rumoi River and look for cliffs you can find to reach this hot spring.
Cloud View Hot Spring¶
Also along the northern edge of the Ishikari Plain region, you can find this hot spring by following the cliffs northwest from the northeastern end of the Rumoi River. You will have to climb these cliffs and multiple spots and grapple jump between branches, but on the plus side there’s no bonus objective to worry about.
Tokachi Range Hot Springs¶
Just follow the Nupur through Serpent’s Pass along the northeastern edge of the Yotei Grasslands region to reach this area. Two hot springs await you here.
The location of the Quiet Valley hot spring on the map.
Have Atus play her shamisen to complete the bonus objective.
Quiet Valley Hot Spring¶
In the Tokachi Range region. You’ll find Yubari Lake along the northwestern edge of the region - follow the edge of the region east from here to find this hot spring, on a hill west of Nupur River. Play a song on Atsu’s shamisen before taking a dip and some horses will run past while Atsu bathes.
The location of the Grassy Fields hot spring on the map.
Visit at night, under a starry sky, to complete the bonus objective.
Grassy Fields Hot Spring¶
Along the northern edge of the Tokachi Range region, east, northeast of Master Yoshida’s Dojo, across the Nupur River, north of the “Saru Plains” text on the map. If you’re approaching from the south you may need to climb a cliff, if approaching from the west you’ll just walk or ride up a grassy, shallow incline. Either way, this hot spring is rather out in the open and not at all hard to find. Its bonus objective, however, requires you to bathe in starlight. Just fast travel back and forth from nearby locations until it’s nighttime and the stars are out, then get your soak on.
Nayoro Wilds Hot Springs¶
Head to the northern edge of the Tokachi Range and take the ferry to reach the northernmost explorable part of the Nayoro Wilds region. There’s only one hot spring here.
Cave Path Hot Spring¶
In the middle of the Nayoro Wilds region you’ll find Husko Kotan - a place you’ll be directed to after taking the ferry to reach this region the first time. From here head west to find some cliffs south of the “Ikidomari Grove” map marker and look for a line of white flowers leading to a grapple point. The Golden Bird will only show up when you’re close to the cliffs, by which time you’re doubtlessly spotted the way up. Grapple up to a higher ledge and climb your way up to reach a cave. Head inside and take a fork uphill to the right to find this hot spring and drink some tea nearby before taking a dip to have some deer walk past as you bathe.
Teshio Ridge Hot Springs¶
The northernmost region in the game, you’ll reach it by traveling north along the Nupur River from the Nayoro Wilds region. Escort some merchants to trigger the beginning of the quest The Kitsune and if you survive the ordeals afterwards you’ll manage to make it to the Teshio Ridge. There are three hot springs in this region.
(1 of 3) The Red Crane Inn is along the Teshio River, along the southern edge of the Teshio Ridge region. You’ll spot it with your spyglass as part of the quest “The Kitsune”.
Red Crane Inn Hot Spring¶
The easiest hot spring to find in this region, all you need to do is press on to the Red Crane Inn, which you’ll scout with your spyglass after first reaching the Teshio Ridge region. Just follow the Teshio River northwest and you’ll find it. Cross the bridge at the entrance to the inn grounds and follow a trail around to the left of the main building to find a smaller building housing the hot spring. You’ll have to pay 200 mon to use the hot spring, but there’s no bonus objective to worry about.
Black Bowl Hot Spring¶
Look for this hot spring in the southwestern corner of the Teshio Ridge region, you can reach it by following the southern border of the region west until you reach the Snow Drift Springs Shrine, which this hot spring is adjacent to. Just climb some cliffs to reach it - it’s northwest of the “Crimson Forest” text on the map. Again, there’s no bonus objective here.
Valley View Hot Spring¶
The first two hot springs in this region were basically gimmes, but this one requires a bit more travel. You’ll need to head a fair distance north from the Red Crane Inn - follow the Teshio River northwest until it veers west, then make your way northwest to Sarobetsu Forest. North of here is Sarobetsu Lake and north of Sarobetsu Lake is the Chilled Peak Shrine. Follow the northern edge of the region northeast to find this hot spring - look for a trail in the snow leading to a cliff you can climb to reach it. The bonus objective is to take a torch from a brazier and light some other braziers surrounding the hot spring.
Note that you can take freezing damage by exploring parts of Teshio Ridge in inclement weather. Seeking shelter indoors will remove this damage, but Sarobetsu Lake and the Valley View Hot Spring both provide warm sufficient to ward the cold off.
Oshima Coast Hot Springs¶
Reaching Oshima Coast basically requires you to finish every main quest in the upper five regions, a process so involved we gave it its own page. There are only two hot springs in Oshima Coast and neither of them are nearly as hard to reach as Oshima Coast itself!
Distant Castle Hot Spring¶
From where you enter Oshima Coast along the northern edge of the region (there’s an aptly named “Oshima Coast Entrance” marker!) follow the northern boundary of the region east to find this hot spring up a cliff. You’ll need to squeeze through a narrow cleft of rock, climb some ledges and use your grapple to reach it. There is no bonus objective.
Cliff View Hot Spring¶
Along the eastern edge of the region, just south of the “Shojin Hills” text, The bridge to this hot spring is broken, so you’ll have to climb a nearby cliff to reach it, spooking some bathing men when you arrive. There is no bonus objective.
