Upton Travers Templar Hunt

Edward’s greed exposed numerous Assassins operating around the Caribbean, but some bureaus were compromised long before Edward got involved, as is the case on Nassau. Still, in an attempt to make amends, Edward will end up involved in family drama during the Upton Travers’ Templar Hunt in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and this page will guide you through this new quest!

Page Breakdown

How to Start Upton Travers’ Templar Hunt

Like with most things in Assassins’ Creed Black Flag Resynced, this quest will become available after you complete the main quest This Old Cove, after which you can begin this Templar Hunt by heading to the quest marker on Nassau.

Talk to Vance at the bureau in Nassau to start this quest,

then go snooping around the market for suspicious characters - you’ll find a merchant you can rob for a Deity Figure and 300 reales, but he’s not who you’re looking for

Oh Brother…

To start this quest, head to the marked location in the middle of Nassau and talk to Vance Travers near the assassin’s bureau. Unlike some other assassins in this questline, Travers doesn’t seem immediately in peril, but he does mention seeing some shady characters around. Shady folk? In Nassau? Perish the thought! Anyways, he wants you to head to the market and kill them.

Make your way to the market and examine the shoppers by holding DualSense-L2 until you find the men down the road along the northern edge of the market (again, look for a green light to let you know what you’re looking for). Also try not to get distracted by a British Merchant boasting of his riches - he’s got a quest marker, but he’s not the person you’re seeking… although you can pickpocket him for 300 reales and a Deity Figurine - one of the many art pieces you’ll need to collect for the Art Lover quest..

Spot the suspicious characters you’re looking for and follow them from the safety of the rooftops,

and they’ll lead you right to the templar you need to assassinate.

Try to get on a building to get a look at the men you seek (ideally without being seen) and from this lofty vantage follow the men as they talk. They’ll have themselves a moment pondering how weird the word “smuggler” is (personally we think “twig” is a strange word) before ultimately leading you to a clearing where the perfidious templar resides. It’s a restricted area, but you can, with some patience, use the rooftops and trees to get behind the templar and assassinate him… only to get a bit of a revelation. The quest ends after you assassinate the templar.

(1 of 3) Listen in on the brothers at the bureau,

The Other Brother

Head to the next quest marker on Nassau and Upton Travers will instruct you to follow him to the bureau. Do so and when you stop following Upton automatically, hide in the bushes, wait, and listen in on his conversation with Vance. Nassau clearly isn’t much for brotherly love. After snooping, talk to Upton and follow him again and he’ll reveal a third figure in this little family drama - a she-pirate from the far east named Jing Lang, for the sake of which Vance is clearly willing to engage in fratricide.

Eventually you’ll stop again and you’ll have to put down some of Jing Lang’s men, but you’ll be given the opportunity to hide first, so you should be able to stealthily kill at least one of the four pirates. After they’re dead, search behind a building northwest of where you fought the pirates to find (remember, hold DualSense-L2 and look for the green light) to find Jing Lang’s Note.Confer with Upton again and give him the bad news, after which you’ll be given another task in this unusually complex subquest - head to a tavern and snoop on this Jing Lang and wayward brother Vance.

Spy on Jing Lang and Vance at a tavern,

then return to Upton and fend off the assassins to foil Vance’s fratricidal plot.

Make your way to the northern end of the island and approach the back windows of the tavern, where you’ll be able to listen in on the murderous conspiracy, which comes complete with a mention of Cain and Abel. Poor Upton. After the two are done plotting (or arguing, rather), rush back south to find Upton now engaged in combat with several of the assassins Vance hired. Not “Assassin” assassins, but deadly all the same. Kill them (your mileage may vary here - if guards wander on the fight, they’ll join in) after which this phase of the quest will end.

(1 of 3) Beat up the tavern-goers that Upton provokes,

Upton’s Sorrow

This subquest is as short as the previous one was long. Find Upton at the next quest marker to find him drowning an existential crisis in alcohol, as one does. This eventually leads to a bar fight when you’ll need to display your pugilistic prowess against some men an inebriated Upton provokes.

After you succeed at fisticuffs, follow Upton through the streets as he gets sick, then pay some nice (but apparently stinky) courtesans 100 reales to satisfy Upton. Money that ultimately goes to waste, as Upton just staggers off a bit before deciding to empty his bladder at an inopportune time. Wait for a trio of guards to approach and when you get the chance, assassinate one or two of them, as a fight is inevitable. After this scrap, follow Upton into an alley, talk to him, and the quest will end.

Wade through the swamp, retaining high ground and anonymity if you can and assassinate Vance,

then chase down Jing Lang until she finds the courage in numbers to fight back.

Queen of Pirates, King of Fools

To start the final subquest in the Upton Travers Templar Hunt, head to the map marker along the northwestern edge of Nassau to find a now-sober Upton waiting for you. After a bit of chatter he’ll defer the bloody business ahead to you, charging you to kill both his brother and Jing Lang.

Use the trees to cross the swamp without placing yourself anywhere near the jaws of the crocodiles that swim around here. On an island in the middle of the swamp you may find some pirates fending off the aforementioned reptiles, and roused by the danger it may be hard to sneak past the pirates. Kill them if you must, doing so shouldn’t blow your cover at the camp further ahead, on higher ground.

Reach the camp and either stealthily pick off enemies until you can assassinate Vance, or just go in guns blazing. Either way, once the deed is done you’ll get a scene, after which Jing Lang will appear. She’s in no hurry to face a killer like Edward in a fair fight, and flees to preserve herself. Chase her and when she passes under a slab of rock running over the road, she’ll be joined by two minions. Fortified by numbers, she’ll now stand and fight. Kill her to get a scene, then return to the camp where you slew Vance and talk to Upton to end this questline.
