There are plenty of games that have quests separate from the main story, with the versions in the Like a Dragon series being called Substories. These separate little stories tend to be lend itself a little more to the wacky nature of the series. While some Substories are triggered as part of the main story, the rest will be marked on the map by a blue speech bubble, so it’s easy to find them on the map. This page will list all of the Substories in the game, as well as when you can do them.
Substories are nothing more than side quests, but can be quite beneficial to do.
You will find a total of 31 Substories in the game, with all of them able to be completed during Chapter 3 of the main story. There are six trophies/achievements tied to Substories in some manner, with one requiring you to finish 20 overall. It’s a good idea to do all of the Substories, though, as some of them reward you with good/great characters for your pirate crew. You do not have to finish all of them, though, to get to the Amon fight, so it’s entirely up to you.

If you plan to only do 20 Substories for the one trophy/achievement, then you can plan things out a little bit. You need five certificates from the Ounabara Vocational School, so that’s one Substory there. You’ll also need to complete all of the Crazy Delivery sources, as well as the three cups in Dragon Kart (another two Substories there). For the final related trophy/achievement, you’ll have to do all of the Substories involving the Minato Girls, so there’s another six. So, that’s a total of nine Substories from other trophies/achievements, plus the three done automatically during the story, leaving only eight more to do on your own.
