Those familiar with the Borderlands series remembers the Vault Symbols from the first set of games. They were mysteriously absent from Borderlands 3, but have since returned in Borderlands 4. Similar to the previous entries, they are symbols that appear in hidden areas, which you can interact with to earn some SDU Tokens. There are a total of 46 Vault Symbols to find in the game, of which 12 of them can be located in The Fadefields region. This page will focus on the locations of all Vault Symbols in The Fadefields.

Vault Symbol 1

There are three Vault Symbols to be found in Coastal Bonescape. The first one is towards the southeastern corner of the area. South of the Waterstop location over there, you will find a house situated on the hill. You’ll know you’re in the correct spot, as there will be some Kratch infested this building. Take them out, then climb onto the roof of the house, until you can reach the top level, right before the highest roof. Circle around this spot to find the Vault Symbol on the side.

Go to the southeastern corner of Coastal Bonescape for the first symbol.

Climb to the top of the Kratch nest to find it on the side of the wall.

Vault Symbol 2

The other two Vault Symbols in Coastal Bonescape are found along the northern border, right in or by Plungeford. The first thing you should do is clear the place of enemies, so you can explore peacefully. Once you do, head to the northwestern corner of the location and look for a building there that has a lot of floors you can explore. This building also has a big hole on the one side, which you can enter to find yourself on the second floor. Either way, navigate to the third floor and go into the room straight ahead of you to find the Vault Symbol on the wall.

(1 of 3) The second symbol is at Plungeford, along the northern border.

Vault Symbol 3

While still in Plungeford, go to the uppermost area of the location, not far from the checkpoint. Head east from the checkpoint and drop down to the cliff area just below you. Look north as soon as you drop down the tiny ledge to find the Vault Symbol etched into the side of the cliff.

(1 of 3) The third symbol in Coastal Bonescape is also near Plungeford.

Vault Symbol 4

There is only a single Vault Symbol to be found in The Howl area, and it’s at The Launchpad, the faction town for the Outbounders. This one can be a little annoying to find, since it’s in the sewers part of the town. Make sure you do enough of the main story until you have the majority of the town unlocked. Go to the southwest corner of the town and look for a building that is partially colored red/brown. Right next to that building will be some big stairs going down, so take them and go through the door straight ahead.

As soon as you do, go down the little set of stairs and immediately turn to the right to find a ladder. Take this ladder down and follow the corridor to the dead end, where you should see the Vault Symbol emblazoned on the wall.

(1 of 4) The fourth symbol is located at The Launchpad, a faction town in The Howl.

Vault Symbol 5

In the Hungering Plain area, go to Horace’s Oversight, a location you go to during the main story. Enter the compound from the western side and fight your way through the enemies, until you venture north and enter a big, open area. Here, you normally continue by climbing some stairs to the east to go inside and climb a wall. Instead of doing that, look for a door you can go into at the base of those stairs. Straight ahead, you should see the grapple prompt on a grate to your northeast. Rip it off the wall and jump into the hole, then go into the next room to find the Vault Symbol on the wall. This room also has a door you can unlock, as well as a white chest for potential guns.

(1 of 4) Go to the Horace’s Oversight location in Hungering Plain.

Vault Symbol 6

Another one in the Hungering Plain area, but you’ll find it towards the northeastern corner. It will be near The Roaming Pasture (Ancient Crawler), so find the road in that area that leads to the activity. When you hit the checkpoint there, jump up the cliff directly west of it, then keep going in that direction to find a ruined, wooden building. Jump up to the second level of the building to find the Vault Symbol.

(1 of 3) The second symbol in Hungering Plain is in the northeastern corner, by the Ancient Crawler.

Vault Symbol 7

In the Idolator’s Noose area of the map, locate Rosemary’s Reserve, a location with Ripper enemies. To the east of there is an unmarked village that is where you can start the Ready to Blow sidequest. The symbol is in the building in the southeastern corner, but you’ll need to jump onto the roof to access it. That’s not too difficult, though, as a simple double jump will get you there. Once on the roof, look for the opening up there and go through it to find a small room, as well as the Vault Symbol.

(1 of 3) Go to the unmarked village to the east of Rosemary’s Reserve for the seventh symbol.

Vault Symbol 8

The other symbol in Idolator’s Noose is found in the southwestern corner, just west of the Rattlehead Coast location on the map. There is a small encampment of Rippers here, so clear them out before doing anything. Once the coast is clear, locate the tallest building in the area and jump up the little platform there to get on the eastern side. Look up to find a grapple point, then use the stairs to go to the upper entrance. Go up the stairs in front of you, then look up to spot another ledge you can reach by double jumping. As soon as you jump up here, look southwest to see the Vault Symbol on the wall.

(1 of 5) The other symbol in Idolator’s Noose is just west of Rattlehead Coast, at a Ripper camp.

Vault Symbol 9

Found in Dissected Plateau, you’ll likely find this one during the main mission, A Lot to Process. At some point during that mission, you will meet up with Zadra and have to escape with her. As soon as the mission updates, go into the small room behind her and look on the wall for the Vault Symbol.

You’ll have a hard time missing this one during A Lot to Process.

It’ll be in the small room whenever you find Zadra during the main mission.

Vault Symbol 10

Another one in Dissected Plateau, but you’ll be going to The Stubs area, which you’ll come here during the Ready to Blow side quest. You’ll find the Vault Symbol on the side of some of the debris in the area, a little more towards the southern end.

The other Dissected Plateau symbol is at The Stubs area.

Look on the side of the large debris towards the southern end of the location.

Vault Symbol 11

The final two Vault Symbols are found in Fortress Indomita, which is first accessible during the Rush the Gate story mission. It’s best to get them both, as well as the ECHO Logs, during the mission, so you can save yourself from having to backtrack. During the mission, one of your goals is to sabotage Sol’s ship. Do this objective and then jump/glide on over to the south. There will be a checkpoint here and to the north will be an elevator that brings you to the upper section of the fortress. Instead of using the elevator, look along the walls in this area to spot a grate you can pull with your grapple. Jump into the hole it leaves behind to find a hidden room with this Vault Symbol.

(1 of 3) The first symbol in Fortress Indomita has you going near the checkpoint by the large elevator.

Vault Symbol 12

For the other symbol in Fortress Indomita, take the elevator mentioned in the previous location to the upper area. Fight your way through the enemies, until you reach the final room before the one with vending machines. There is a broken walkway here, with one side offering a grapple point. Go up here, jump across to the other side and stand on the railing. Look up to see another ledge above you that you can grab, so do that, then there will be one more ledge above that one. This area is covered with ivy, so once you reach the top, you can drop down to a hidden area that has the Vault Symbol.

(1 of 4) The second symbol in the fortress is in the final room before the vending machines.

Other than the 5 SDU Tokens for each Vault Symbol you find, there are no other unlocks for going after them. In fact, you don’t even unlock a trophy/achievement for finding them all.
